Pissed off with new laptop. Vista sucks.

ok, question.

Please tell me full honistly why you hate vista. im running it right now and i would not dare go back to xp. So many people say that i really would like to know exactly what makes it suck in you point of vies :)

anyone i reall want to know

yes i know that is is not worth to upgrade, but it is not worth to downgrade

Ug, fine I will give you the cliff notes version of what I have always said about vista...

No performance increase
More DRM
Less compatibility
less stability
more bloat
higher requirements
no real world benefits
all new features are geared towards IT type people
SMB 2 breaks all previous SMB networking
DX10 offers no real world performance increase
ridiculous marketing
some thing still can't run in vista

Otherwise, it is usable.

There is a performance increase on the correctly configured computers.

Very well
Less compatibility
 Thats wrong, Vista has much more compatibility than XP
less stability
Over a year on Vista, never once had a crash
more bloat
Only when you get a OEM PC like HP.
higher requirements
Well Yes, but does that make XP better than Windows 95?:rolleyes:
no real world benefits
More support, compatibility, and speed.
all new features are geared towards IT type people
Windows Calendar, Photo Gallery etc, much more for the home user.
SMB 2 breaks all previous SMB networking
I dont know what SMB is, so Ill give you that.
DX10 offers no real world performance increase
it will when we get new cards.
ridiculous marketing
Its really hard to pick from 4 versions
some thing still can't run in vista
Ive yet to get anything which doesn't work in Vista.

Otherwise, it is usable.
Much more usable than XP ever will be. :)

It also supports Turbo RAM, and the sidebar, I can't run without that, now, its so good. And the instant search on start menu. Man Vista is GREAT :)

I have only read the first page. Vista does not suck if you try it out. Getting a single problem with a laptop from Japan is not a reason to base an attack on an operating system. You shouldn't buy a $11-1300 laptop without researching the operating system you want.

Also, your laptop has the same graphics card as mine and yours was $500 cheaper :)

edit: Seeing tlarkin's post's referenced, I strongly agree with Garethman!!`. Xp crashed a lot more for me. I have had one bsod, and that was my old laptop running vista with 1gb ram and an integrated graphics card. XP had much higher requirements than 98/95, but do you see anyone using windows 95? (besides me sometimes)

You shouldn't have to configure anything, it should be better out of the box. It also is not a performance increase, it just can utilize more hardware, that doesn't make it a worthy upgrade.

DX10 offers no real world benefits because hardware and developers don't take full advantage, just google it you will see side by side comparisons.

Less stability over all, you probably use your computer for a few niche things. Try editing video on a vista rig, see how stable it is, or try to do anything over a network, the I/O in Vista is horrid.

The bloat is from the backwards compatibility

Those features you refer to can be easily obtained on XP, all other Vista only features are for the IT type crowd now the end user.

There is no freaking speed difference and in fact some benchmarks perform less in Vista than they do in XP, google it.

First off, nicely done!

Secondly, we have vista on my dad's computer. He doesnt do anything other than listen to indian music online, email, and my mom is always looking at zillow.com. Its a compaq, everything is stock on it, 1gb of RAM. Admittetley, he isn't computer savvy at all so for him, the comp works great. We bought it only because our eMachines conked out. I must say, that vista is a very nice OS. Not a single crash or anything. my favorite, i must say, is the start button search.

i'd probably stay with XP for a while though, because of it's familiarity. And i sometimes .ɐʇsıʌ uo ʞɹoʍ ʇ,uop 11ɐ puɐ sɯɐɹboɹd ǝsoɥʇ 'sǝɯıʇǝɯos .ɟɟnʇs puɐ sʞɔɐɹɔ ǝsn ʇɐɥʇ sɯɐɹboɹd ɟo ssǝɯ ǝ1oɥʍ ɐ pɐo1uʍop. I'd love to try a dual boot though.

Indeed, I like it a lot, id still be on XP if it wasn't for my high amount of RAM. But I am glad that I made the switch to Vista. I can work much faster in it than I could on XP, simply because of the instant search, I don't need to mess with the mouse, most apps are 'window key' + first 2 letters or so, and then enter.

Ive never really used vista be4 so i cant really hate on it. i am looking to get a laptop for college, so would u guys recemend i get vista? Ive always used xp. Is there any one reason every1 hates it?? i mean its more secure and all that good stuff right?

Yes, I really recommend Vista, providing your laptop will have a dual-core and 2GB or more ram, it will fly on it. The people who hate Vista I have noticed have either poor hardware with no drivers, afraid to move on from XP, or like Apple. It is more secure, its faster, its got smoother transitions, the sounds are peaceful and not clanky, and all-in-all, I think its the best Microsoft have done.

I think you have no choice whether to use Vista or not. Most, if not all laptop sellers have moved to Vista. I might be wrong in saying this but finding a new laptop with XP might be tough.

Wow i wasn't expecting all these responses, mainly useless ones.
I did a fresh install straight from a vista disk, thinking maybe the OS sucked so bad because of all the crap loaded on the PC from the factory. Was wrong.

Now this is a pretty good laptop "250gig hd, 2gig ram, duel core, 512 video memory" and its still pretty damn slow.
1st issue is the thing always seems to be loading something, takes too long to boot up, video drivers fail randomly during gaming, Stupid prompts for every damn little thing, i could go on, but i wont bore you.

It runs the programs i use daily decent "PS, ILL, Indesign" and so on, but i just liked XP better.

So back to my original question. Whats needed to get xp loaded on my laptop? Right now it cant see the HDD. Also can i get XP drivers for my vista laptop, or am i suck with this?

I had a Vista laptop for about a year. I am still learning how to use it. The security features are really annoying.

Forgot to add the built in wireless is slower than shit. Like slower than dialup, but the computers running xp and wireless run fast as hell. Prob another vista issue. Could be wrong.

That is an issue with SMB2 and Vista's slow I/O. Some people even experienced no connections with certain hardware configurations. While it was uncommon that this happens, it still does.

You may need to update a crap ton of drivers and patch the hell out of your OS.

XP will be obsoleted very soon. In future all Desk Top/ Note book will come with Vista. So is very difficult to find a XP in future.
