and all the stats are pretty close, but what about pixel pipelines? why don't any of the 8*** series cards mention pixel pipelines?

what would you suggest out of those or other cards?

also, would my zalman VF900 fit on one of these? its not important, really, but i wouldn't mind using it. i think it would work but im not sure yet.

If there are no pipelines mentioned, then you can google the model number to find out. Its is not accurate to just compare pipelines, very much the same as comparing frequencies between AMD and Intel CPUs. For example the X1950XT has more pipelines (no too sure how many it has but I believe more than 24) than the 7900GT (24) and yet they are very similar in performance.

X1950XT has 16 pipes but it can do 48 shader processors.

And no 7900GT and X1950XT are not similar in performance. X1950XT is better

Out of these MSI 8600GTS is the best

If you can spend more money then you can get this which can completely destroy 8600GTS

i cant spend more than $200, i would like an 8800 gts, but im too poor, and i really dont need that much power. its just my x700 is old, and its giving me a shitload of problems.

8 series ditched pipelines, they now use stream processors and so does ati.

Out of those card the MSI one is the better, but have you looked into the 7950GT, they're very good and run games out now and the newer ones on max.

You cant decide on a car by looking at how many pipelines it has. A great example would be comparing the x1950XT to the 7950GT.

What you should look at is benchmarks, since cards can look alot better on paper then in real world scenarios.

as i said, its something else i want to look at.. on the car subject its not just the horsepower.. its the torque too.. know what i mean?

annnnd BAM it hits me.. tomshardware vga charts. duh! (edit: the 8600 isnt on the charts yet =()

i will look at the 7950, but i sort of want a dx10 card (even though i dont have vista..yet)

No one knows how the 8600xx will perform with DX10.. I happen to think it will put up a fight but it's possible that DX10 will will rip it to pieces (or anything in between). If you are seriously considering vista and DX10 consider saving alittle while longer to get an 8800gts. The cheapest i can find is alittle under $300, By the time you go vista it could have dropped further in price so as to fit your budget.

The moral? Wait till you need a dx10 card to buy one!

It's good to look at the specs, but what I would do is compare them here: http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php

That way you can see the detailed specs for various cards.
