pixelation

I use my computer as a dvr. When I watch through my tv the picture is clear but when watching tv on the monitor it seems pixelated. I've tried both crt and lcd monitors. Would it be better if I set it up with dvi? Is it better to just stay with the tv as a second monitor? Video card is radeon 9250. Thanks

First off have a hearty Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html Please remember to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

Running video capture and tv tuner cards here I always use the lcd monitor for viewing. This includes cable as well as analog video inputs. The model card you have is a little outdated for the newer softwares and tuner cards for seeing a good display on the system. The signal output seems intended more for viewing on tv rather then for crt/lcd. Often a vgs signal converter is needed. What type of software is used for this?

Standard definition TV's display at 720x480 interlaced. Your monitor is much higher than this, and non-interlaced. These conversions tend to reduce the quality of the video on your monitor. Also, ATI cards have always had better TV-Out functions, and typically can match the original quality better than other cards with TV-Out(at least in my experience)

Unless you upgrade to HDTV and all, I doubt you'll get much better quality on your computer. Your problem sounds very typical... I know I've played some of my captured videos back and they looked rather crummy, but then I burnt them to a DVD and the it looked perfect...

Well at least there's a display being seen on the older card there. Now jump to Vista and the new tuner card recently installed is... worthless! since there are update patches for the new version of Windows. Now you see why XP remained the primary OS with the newer Radeon PCI-E card.

What gets me the most however is the older X700s and X800 and X850 AGP models cost far more then what was paid for the Radeon X1300 Pro PCI-E model here. Over $300-400 for the X850? I paid $109- for the model here.
