Placing PSU on the bottom

I just watched a TigerDirect video on youtube. Anyways, He placed the PSU on the bottom and he placed the fan towards the bottom. Now some of you tell me well heat rises so it's not a good idea. But what if I turn the PSU upside down so the fan is on the bottom? Or is that how it's suppose to go?

My question would have to be why do it?

Also you would have to cut your case up unless it was made to do that.

some cases are just made with the PSU space at the bottom. Heat does rise but if the PSU can push all of the heat out of the back of the case then none should stay in the case.

Like I said before its a preference thing. I personally would keep my PSU at the top of the case just so the hot air goes through less parts on its way out of my case.

Yea, I totally see both sides. I mean it seems there's both good things about both positions. On top seems to get the better reviews. I also read (don't know if it's true) but look at this pic. That's liquid cooling right? but how the hell is the psu going to fit there?

I just bought this exact case tonight. The output fan on top of the case is HUGE, so it will pull all air out of the case. Also, the front end fans will blow most of that hot air out the back before it rises that much anyway. Mac Pros and G5 desktops run Dual G5 and Dual Xeon processors, which are HUGE server processors that run fast (some Dell workstations do the same) and all of their PSUs are bottom mounted.

It is fine as long as the air flow is good. Remember it doesn't matter how many fans you have, it matters about air flow. If the heat doesn't stay in one place you are good to go. Plus most things today use heat piping technology, which means the heat is distributed to begin with.

I would not worry about the PSU being mounted on the bottom. In fact is has more room for air flow on the bottom and probably keeps the PSU cooler anyway, instead of keeping the PSU caught in the upper corner where the heat just stays in the PSU. It is most likely better on the PSU over all for it to be on the bottom.

My Antec also has the PSU placing at the bottom and hot air is being blown up into it but its alright because Ive got 2 fans blowing air into the case and 2 exhaust [On the back and on the side]

But one bad thing about that is that your PSUs' cables have to be pretty long..

I love my case, I really do but I would much rather have the PSU at the top.

Yeah I still think overall the PSU being at the top is a good thing. Like ellanky mentioned you don't need quite as long cables, I think cable management will be easier. But with your case you pretty much HAVE to keep it at the bottom, unless you don't want to utilize the already precut water holes on the back of that case?

You are all forgetting that heat rises, but it also expands. When it is on the bottom of the case it has more room for expansion, where as if it is cooped up in the upper corner more heat resonates with in the PSU itself. When the heat is expanded it is easier to control the temperatures. Remember that having heat is not as bad as having heat that resonates on your system. When it builds up in one place it is bad.

This is real basic thermodynamics.

SOOO, if I put the psu on the bottom.. How should my fan setup be? Top blowing in side blowing out, front blowing in and back blowing out?

I have to agree, its not that bad, but it would be nice.

Don't worry if its blowing onto something else, if you have case fans they'll take care of most of the heat. Theres really no such thing as having the PS upside down. Just blow the air up, if your worried at all about heat just crank up the case fan speed. I wouldn't worry about it, my system runs pretty cool.

There is not more space for expansion at the top or bottom. If you place your PSU up top its a mirror image of placing it at the bottom (turn the PSU fan to face downward when installing a the top)

It rises and expands, so if it is at the top it is more likely to resonate there. Having your PSU at the bottom does not harm your system or make it hotter like some people are implying.

That is all I am saying.

I still have a hard time with leaving it at the bottom, but it may well just be a preference thing. btw was not trying to start anything with you Tlarkin, I apologize if I came across that way
