Planing my first system...

Hello everyone, I am planning on building my first system ever. After a lot of research I believe I am ready for the challenge. I am looking to buy everything but a monitor and OS. Right. 128 MB RAM, some ECS mobo, 20gig HDD, and slap it all in a cardboard box and your ready to go.

Get a really cheap video card now and then upgrade to the 8600 Ultra or the 8800 GTS 320 Mb in 1 or two months when they come out. I would suggest a x700 just to tide you over.

I hear that PSU's can mess up your computer if its not good enough. Other thing is it has $70 in mail in rebates bringing my total down to $860 meaning I have atleast another $100 to $120 to spend in a different place. Any suggestions?

excellent build! very good, it is basically identical to mine with the intel route. very good, you will like it. get BF2142 and you will not ever regret it. maybe strive for a 500-600 watt PSU though to be safe
