you think its worth it?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (Upgrade after 12 hours of work this weekend)
and
eVGA 7900GTO (about $50 to upgrade from my current card)

think its worth it till C2Q comes out?

had to edit out the X1900XT 512, cause it's about $100 over budget

If you're happy with spending the money on that (not criticising you or anything), then go for it.

Although, to be honest, I would downgrade the CPU. You have a SWEET motherboard, and can easily overclock a low-end Athlon to the speed of a high-end Athlon. Look, I can overclock a X2 3800 to 2.45GHz, overnight-dual-prime stable (incredibly stable) - faster than a 4800 at stock speeds. All without raising any voltages (and it's raising voltages that damages components).

You may as well go for a 4400X2. Same amount of cache, but cheaper.

Regarding the GPU, I would again say get the cheapest 7900GT you can find, and overclock it. Then theres no need to buy a higher-clocked card for more.

7900GTO is a wicked deal right now, go for it if you can afford it.

The processor...do you honestly think it is holding you back? If you don't have to, don't bother. Wait for the next big thing to come along and waste money on it.

I would get a new video card, but not a new processor. In fact in most games you will probbaly notice a slow down since the X2 runs at a lower clock.

my 4000+? simply put: sometimes.... while trying to encode video, compress songs, rip songs, burn 2 DVD's at once and listening to music, my processor boggs down... I know it's also harddrive related, but im basically getting the processor for free and the videocard for $50 like i said...

the 4800+ runs at the same 2.4GHz as my 4000+

well, im going to wait for C2Q's release, then the price of them to drop slightly, maybe even wait for the next line of processors to drop the price on the C2Q... after i buy this CPU and videocard, im keeping it the way it is for atleast another 6 months for the videocard, and about a year for the whole system... then ill buy a new mobo/ram/cpu/everything else...

Get the GTO then. That does indeed seem to be the best card for that price range.

Again, I would suggest getting a X2 3800, and overclocking it. You have a DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert, which is designed for stable overclocking.
