I want to play this oblivion game you all are playing, problem is when i bought the game all I can see is a white screen, my vid card is just radeon 9250 i dont want to upgrade just to play this game no more cash:P
any suggestions or steps i can follow?

is that card even supported? :x

anyhow... there was a fix for BF2 to make it run on geforce 4 cards etc... im sure there is a similair thing for oblivion (shader mod or so would it be called i gues )

I bet you jsut googled for what i typed.. :P ( I hate the pc's here.. they blocked about everything interesting.. they really want people to work it seems.. :x ) :D
i wont deny i google it, my memory is good.... but i fail to retain a detailed URL indexing of all the sites i know off:D
But i was aware that older cards has shader issues with Oblivion (due to having experienced it myself) :)
just posted while i was lookoing :D :D :P

A Moderator willing to take the time to look up something is a Moderator worth having :).

As for the question of Oblivion running. If you manage to get it to run you prob. wont enjoy it as your card just wont make the grade.

When having these issues it is always best to look for updated game patches, update video drivers, update Direct X (if needed) sound drivers (yes sound too). There are more steps that can be taking but those are the major causes of games failing to run.

Well, I've seen it done b4 (my friend had a 9250 and a 9550 and tried it on both) but it's really not worth it... imo, Oblivion is just not fun at all unless distant lands is on, aa is at least 2, and its not laggie as all hell... I was playing it with full detail and all that jazz (but w/o trilinnear, aa was 4, shadows off, distantlands on, ect...) with a 7600GT and a 3500+AM2 and it looked marvelous....but...when my friend played it w/ his 9250/9550 he had to shut DL off and it looked like $hit......but, thats my opnion...

Well this 5600FX is running 21 FPS with distant lands on.

I'd say if a 5600FX could run it a 9600 could run it. And if your 6800 can't run it theres something wrong. My X700 runs it pretty good at medium settings.

I said my 6800GT could not run it? I believe I said it runs slow. That was a huge twist of my words there.

21 FPS with low details like that is slow in my opinion. I bet the video on that card dips well below the 21 FPS you show there ;). Now if I turn down all the detail etc. then my card will pull off much higher FPS then what you see there.

If there was a problem with my card I'd know. Trust me I'm fairly computer savvy ;).

Also the 9600 would prob do better then the 5600FX. Nearly the entire line of FX's where a huge flop. It was Nvidia's time of shame. So anyway if he does not mind cranking down the graphics until it looks ugly to get smooth "constant" frame rates then yes he can run it. I never said that he couldn't... just that it would run slowly.

I stand by my original argument

I'm sure it will run but very slowly. I doubt it could be enjoyable at all.

Games arnt just about grafic's tough... The gameplay of oblivion is pretty fun, and even on low(er) setting, it still looks pretty nice :)

Funny you say that because that has always been my argument :P.

Anyway I agree they are not all just about graphics.... there is something depressing about getting a game that is beautiful to look at and having to turn down the graphics to make it ugly. Just makes it not so enjoyable to me.

Anyhow I'm going to stand by my original comment. I said it where playable and set him up to realize that it wont be pretty ;). It is better then saying... Yeah dude go for it! Oblivion rules and will run on your PC :). The person will purchase install and might not be happy with the purchase.

Simply defending why I made the comment.
