Playing DVD's

Guys,

Any thoughts as to why my cd/dvd player can read and play a cd, but the dvd it will tell me that there's a disc in there and will show me the files but will not let me play it.

According to the device manager all drivers are up to date and it's unzoned.

Any ideas???

Do you have dvd playing software installed? What operating system?

If you have Windows 7 you should be able to watch DVDs right away with Windows Media Player.

If you have any Windows OS other than 7 then try VLC Media Player instead: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.en_GB.html

Windows 7 was the only one to include DVD codecs out of the box.

Thank you guys for your responces,

The OS is win 7 Home Premium and usually I run VLC as a media player, why I'm confused is because until about a fortnight/three weeks ago everything was working well but whatever has happened has caused the total inability to play ANY dvds, I have tried both purchased and home made dvd's without success.

Device manager tells me the drive is working correctly and that drivers are up to date, I have updated VLC as well but to no avail.

PS later on when time is available I will try to see if I have another media (the windows one)

Seems strange. Long shot but try updating your graphics card drivers or removing and reinstalling them - follow my instructions here for that: http://www.computerforum.com/230370...nstall-graphics-drivers-amd-nvidia-intel.html

Failing that can you do a system restore back to the time when it was working?
