Playing F.E.A.R with maximum graphics?

Hi, I have trouble playing F.E.A.R with very good graphics and the ones it recommends are very bad...

Using Intel core duo 2.13 GHZ, 2GB RAM DDR2 and a Radeon 1550 256MB DDR2

Any tips? I'll try and get a screen shot of the recommended graphics and the maximum ones.. if I put max it just lags.

I had FEAR running @ 1024 x 768 on max settings on 1GB PC2700 and an X850, so something like a 7800 should be Ok, I guess...

It's because of your video card.

Your C2D is definitely powerful enough, 2GB of RAM is plenty, but the x1550 video card is just horrible for gaming.

I can do quite well with my 7600GT, so I'm pretty sure something like a 7900GS or higher would let you max it out pretty easily.

at good res with a 7900GS and max i still got low FPS. although FEAR Extraction point i think runs on a different engine and for some reason always ran better...

I can't remember for sure, but I think I play mine at 1024x768 with details maxed out, but no AA. It runs just fine with only a couple studders here and there, though sometimes pretty fair frame rate drops if there's a whole lot of smoke or something...

By a good res i think you mean higher than 1280x1024? Because that's what the majority of gamers use. :P

Extraction Point is just an EXPANSION, it uses the same engine as the original. I see no difference. I have a 7900GT and I turn AA and AS on at a resolution of 1280x1024. I have to turn down on some of the shadows though, I suspect its my memory being only 256MB.

I had an XFX7900GS and I could play it @ 1280 x 1024 with max everthying, no AA though, got a decent frame rate, I'll see how the 7950GT does, I don't know if the extra 256mb of memory will help...

I think extra memory will help with shadows and stuff like that, but I would go for processing power rather than absurdly amounts of memory. 256MB should be sufficient for most games.

I think it may help with the textures also, if they are set to high and there are a lot of them, the 7950 has a good processor in it also, so I guess I'm Ok there.

You got a 512mb 7950? i actually don't think it will make that big of a difference.. 256mb is fine for DX9.

The 7950 will probably give you an extra 10 fps, give or take , Simply because the GS is so similar to the Gt.

Yeah, So I think I may be able to play DX10 games in DX9 without any problems, that's what I'm hoping anyway :P
