Hi, sorry in advance if this is a stupid question.

Basically i want to play my ps3 in HD (cant afford a HD tv right now) and after watching some movies of games online in HD (amazing) I thought it possible to somehow play through my laptop screen (being high res and all).

I have read that you can use a 'dazzle dvd recorder' to do it but would this be in HD or normal TV resolution?

any help much appreciated

thanks in advance
Aaron.

I don't think laptops can render HD images on the FLY. Basically i dont think your laptop can pick the images up as being HD. Process them and then Render them all in HD.

What Connexions do you have on the laptop. Because you need a composite Input (not output) or a HDMI Input (not output) otherwise i dont see a logical way of doing it.

Even on a PC the tower must have a TV tuner card to even think about being a screen for a console. Best thing to do is buy a TV card with Video In and connect it though that. It will work in HD but only if you buy a HD TV Card. (very expensive) otherwise it will render in the standard 640X480 resolution. (which we both know isn't HD) but instead standard TV Resolution.

Hope this Helps

You are going to need a TV tuner card for your laptop. TBH though, it won't make any difference being in HD or not. Your laptop screen is probably too small to even make a difference either way.

I knew it. i always thought there would be a money making scheme somewhere.

The other way is to purchase a TV then you could plug both laptop and ps3. problem soved.

thanks for the advice everyone.

I think it will save alot of hassle and wont be much more expensive just to get a HD TV.

Got a couple of extra questions if anyone can help, il get a HD TV but

1. what is 1080p and 'true HD', what is all this about?
2. Can a use my laptop through the HD TV and use one of those wireless keyboards/mouse things?

thanks again for anwering my newbish questions :P

1080P is just the resolution. Right now 1080P is the highest, followed by 720P, 1080i, 720i, etc.

and yes, you can hook up your laptop to your TV. My tv has a VGA/DVI port so it's super simple to hook up.

Really? A WUXGA resolution (Like on the alienware m17x) Is 1200p..

1200p isn't a proper HD standard. HD resolutions are actually 16:9 (1920x1080 etc) whereas 1200p is 1920x1200, which is 16:10.
