Can anyone estimate how much they think the Playstation 3 will cost? I predict 600-800. The hardware is really what would jack up the price. Plus i think the games will range from 85-100 each. (all prices in canadian here).

List the prices you think...Canadian or US.

why not...they are coming on BLU-RAY...Which is much more expensive than HD-DVD.

yes ur very right. sony will have to make a lot of money to even make a profit. 600-800 dollars is very close. as i mentioned in the xbox 360 vs. revolution thread. the games might not be that expensive but close.

yeah lets hope the games are cheaper. With all the power in the Playstation 3 i agree with you that Sony will have to sell alot to make a profit. Big test for them this time around.

ill probably get one in a few years:P

i never get a system when they first come out. usually over time, they have better technology(like new ps2) and the price drops at the same time.

I reckon Sony will do what they did with the PS2 and sell it at a loss. They easily made up the money later with software and merchandise. My prediction for PS3 is around £280 or around $500. Games will probably start off on DVD (keep it as something familiar for a while) and cost about £40-45 ($70-$80)
then with the advent of Blu-Ray they will up the price to £50 ($90).

Yes, they may come on blu-ray which are much moe expesnive for US, but when you are wholesaling things in they are alot cheaper, and the price isn't as much for them.

yeah but im thinkin that it will come out at 499-599 or some were around there
cuz yeah if u whole sale things they are cheaper but that blu-ray thing is still expensave so

the games wont be blu-ray for a while, seeing as how the ps3 won't come with blu-ray for a while.
i think even with blu-ray, games will be no more than $60. sony knows no one will pay 600+ for a ps3 AND upwards of $60 per game

i dont know. people were paying $1000 for the x-box 360 on ebay when it came out. some people out there would do anything to be the first one to get one. lol

I cannot see Sony charging $600-$800... $500. maybe. That price is so high for a console and out of reach for many. If they want to compete then they have to sell for less. Just might have to take a loss.

can you give me a site where it legitimatley says that PS3 won't come out with BLU-RAY. Aswell as thegame won't come out on BLU-Ray. Because I'm pretty sure the PS3 will 100% come out with BLU-RAY or else early owners won't be able to take advantge of the games when they indeed come out on BLU-Ray.

^well i cant find the article now.. i think it was maybe sony being nervous for a week, and apparently have changed their minds now as all signs point to ps3 releasing with blu ray.

I think it wont be to high in price. Won't be alot more than the Xbox 360.

In PSM magazine,February 2006, Issue 107 is says, and I quote:

"$600-700?!
No. Sony isnt stupid. It is, however, keeping its lips sealed on the actual price point for now. Wehn we recently spoke with SCEA president and co-COO Kaz Hirai, he essentially said that you will feel that the PS3's capabilities are worth the price they're going to be asking. He also pointed to their history in providing a lot of bang for the buck, in particular the PSP value pack. That said, our developer contacts are all expecting the system to debut for, at most, $399. Yes, Blu-Ray Disc is new and expensive, but Sony will be willing to swallow the cost for long-term success. PS3 could potentially be facing a sub-$300 Xbox 360 when it launches in the fall, so a price point double that would be retail suicide. Last we asked, Sony has every intention of staying alive and well in the console race"

I don't know the author of the article.

The media that the games are recorded on doesn't suggest how expensive they will be, The game company buys (if not makes) millions of blank disks that they probably buy priced $0.05 each pack of 10.
If the games cost $100 each who would buy them?
Certainly NOT me.

the media does suggest how expensive it...im not saying 100 will be the price...80-100...if the media doesnt suggest the price than sony and game developers would be losing money. i agree with the others wher sony will be selling at a loss. But having the games on BLU-RAY would mean more expenses for both sony and game developers
