Purpose:
Probably xp sp2
Simultaneously running the following
Internet explorer 7(15 tabs a time),
excel,
media player,
avast antivirus
moving huge files (sorting up my data)

Ones I liked.

Compaq Presario C702
Celeron 1.73, 512,80gb= Rs. 24750 = 600$

Lenovo 3000G400 33Q,
Celeron 1.73, 512,80gb = Rs 26000 = 600$+

I will surely upgrade the system to 2gb ram. Rest remains same.

So I will be shelling out 2000Rs more (50$)

Target: 3years

Do you think I can run the things I said mentioned above with out significant difference compared to a high-end thinkpad. (Rs 60000 / 1500$)

What all limitations/problems do you asses? The brand, processor, ram has any known bad history?

I have the budget to go more (Till 1500$), but is it necessary?

Thanks a lot for your help. I really am confused. So many laptops. Lowend to highend, spent many hours for this.

I would recommend staying away from Celeron processors. They are very low end and you'll get mad at yourself for getting one cause they weren't made for speed. Get a Turion X2 processor. It's dual core, its cheap and you'll be happy with it.

Thanks a lot.

I liked "you'll get mad at yourself ".... I usually make blunders... atleast this time I hope I can do things sensibly.

The PC which I really liked costs around 1500$ but I am sad, the same will be totally outdated by 3-4 years... any consolative view points?

Thanks again for the help
