I went ahead and installed Avast again. I used it for years but I panicked when they did that last update that caused all of the false positives. Oh well...live and learn. Had HJT fix those issues you brought up johnb35...thanks again for the amazing dedication you show on this forum. I read with much interest most of the solutions you offer people.
Gamblingman...I've used ccleaner for about 3 years and I love it!!! I read and sympathise with your inlaw computer experience (I chuckled incessantly and I had to read the whole saga) as for backups meh I really don't store anything but pics and music (for which I burn DVDs on pics and the music comes from my CD collection plus numerous ipods).
Anyway, I will download SAS, and once again THANK YOU ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!!
