i know i am missing case and os. but i will get it later.
could you please help me if this combo is ok? i'm not planning to upgrade from this. so maybe i can reduce budget from getting cheaper motherboard,graphic card, power supply, etc...
just need to reduce price but not loosing much capability.
please let me know i want to order this by tomorrow since newegg has rebate program until 10/31

You need to either change to an AMD mobo or change to an Intel CPU. Going with Intel and keeping similar performance will probably raise the price.


Here's a 5850 and an 870 UD3 board for $300 after promo codes. You said no crossfire so the 870 board will be fine.

A 6850 and a similar mobo would also be good. Not quite on the level with the 460 I don't think, but it's also cheaper. More than enough for SCII.

edit: Bill, he isn't going to crossfire/SLI, so a $140 board isn't necessary. A ~$100 880G/870 board should do fine.

Yeah, am still doing some looking around. This one looks like it'd crossfire but not SLI, and no USB3 but solid otherwise. Maybe he'll get some input from someone more Savvy.

Well,

This looks like it'd be worth checking reviews on. Asus is a trustable brand and it would actually allow for SLI and be under $100 including shipping. I don't see a combo, but I think overall your cost is still less than what you originally posted in this thread.
 
AMD boards with nvidia chipsets are awful. Don't do that.

Also, avoid Biostar. Baaad.

Give me a minute and I'll come up with a build. It'll be below 500. Maybe not as powerful, but it'll be enough to play SCII on high settings for sure.
 
This is a motherboard that Drenlin mentioned. You could pair it with a 6850 and save money tonight and still be good for games. Also, this would let you add a second Graphics Card later if you wanted.
 
I keep hitting walls trying to get it under 500, but you should be able to do it with an Athlon II x4 640 and a Radeon HD5770. Should be enough for you unless you need every setting on max. A GTS-450 might work as well...haven't looked to see how they stack against the 5770 though. I need to sleep or I'd finish it...have to wake up in 2 and a half hours.

The mobo Bill posted there is good. I have a somewhat earlier version of it, without the 850 southbridge...very well built. Not needed if you aren't crossfiring, though...it's $127 before rebates, which can take months to come back. A sub-$100 870/880G board would be perfectly ok. Even a well-built 785G or 770 board would be ok if you won't miss USB3 or SATA 6GB, which is really the only major difference.

Sub-$100, has all the newest goodies and 8x/8x crossfire. Normally I'd avoid AsRock, the low-end of Asus, but that actually has good features. All solid caps and MOFSET cooling is hard to find on a board like that.
