Ok, i don't have a clue with computers. I know how to work them, but i accidently downloaded Blubster, and it came with spyware/adware blah blah. Now i can't get rid of Blubster (i deleted it in add/remove programs but it doesn't seem to have gone) and i can't delete the infected files. For example i now have a folder called "MyWay" but it won't let me get rid of it.

So can anybody help. I want a clean computer, not a completely infected one. But please, if possible, speak in idiot language, so i can understand. ;)

Thanks in advance

Stephen

Ok, thanks, anything you can do would be great. Like i said, i dont have a clue. The only thing i know is that my main PC found 6000 infected files when i last checked it abou 2 weeks ago, and i dont want my laptop to go the same way (Its the laptop im trying to clean, so i wont - hopefully!!! - have to list 6000 odd files).

Stephen

There shouldn't and I'm surprised your computer didn't give up if it had 6000 viruses on it, are you being serious about there being 6000 or are you exaggerating here?

"My Way"? Sounds like you have downloaded Grokster!... It downloads and installs a host of spyware along with it, including the My Way toolbar...

Byteman, send this guy your spyware template, he needs it desperatly! As to the problem at hand, if something cant be deleted, its being used (its a running process). If you boot into Windows safe mode, and run the necessary scans there (once all definitions are updated) that should take care of it. Best of luck!

as requested. also I modified step 5 to scan in safe mode... :)

1. Disable System Restore (right-click on "My Computer", Properties, System Restore, check Turn off System Restore).

2. Enable viewing of all files/folders (open "My Computer", Tools, Folder Options, View, click "View hidden folders and files" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types").

3. Update your Anti-virus program and run a full scan. If you don't have one or your subscription is out of date, then run BOTH online scans below. If you can run a scan with your updated Anti-virus program, then just run ONE of the online scans below.

4. Download CWShredder, VX2finder, Kill2me, and run them. Let them fix what they find. See these links for download:

http://www.pchell.com/downloads/vx2finder.exe
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/kill2me.zip

5. Now, download Ad-Aware SE, and SpyBot, (both are free, see links below) install them and update them seperately. Then re-boot to safe mode (pressing F8 when booting up) and run a FULL system scan with Ad-Aware, (not the Smart Scan), and check all the items it finds/let it remove them. Run SpyBot and scan, let it remove what it finds. REBOOT your machine and run them again, TAKE NOTE of what items still remain that they couldn't get ride of! Some items will be taken off from a 2nd scan and some items they will NOT be able to remove at all, (Note what those items are).

Those items that you cannot remove after a second scan, post them here and I will give you instructions on how to manually remove them :D

Ok, I too am completely inept with computers, so anyone with an answer for me, please, TALK TO ME LIKE I AM 7 YEARS OLD so I can understand. Ok, so a while back, I used to play internet billiards on a certain website... One day I went all security crazy and pumped everything up that I could. Now I can't play any games on this site because it says I dont have Javascript enabled. I went into my internet security settings and allowed the running of scripts, turned off my windows firewall, turned off my Norton Internet Security, put it on trusted sites, everything that I could think of. I am just stupid and dont know what to do. I thought I undid everything I did to increase my security, but still, I can't run the bloody javascript!! All I want to do is play a little stupid pool on the stupid internet. Please someone help!! I have Windows XP Home... Thanks!

Only thing i can think of would be to go under internet options, under advanced header, there is ajava box.. make sure it is checked. If that dont work go back and re download the newest java software. It should make it all better for you.

In Internet explorer, goto Tools menu, Internet options, Security tab, click Default level, then Programs tab, click Reset Web Settings, then Advanced tab, click Restore Defaults. Then click ok.

Shena, You should start a new thread rather than butting in someone elses next time... :)

Butting in?? Come on! The thread is called "Please help a computer idot!" I am a computer idiot! Why should he have all the rights to the idiot forum? Lol, see, I am such an idiot, I can't even start my own thread!! Hehe, anyway, I will try all this stuff, thanks for your help!

ok, I tried the advice you guys gave me, and still no go... Any other thoughts? Lol, I think I may have to resign myself to a life without internet billiards *sniff*...

Ok so I went to that link you put up there apj101, and yeah a little grey box came up with a little yellow triangle sign with an exclamation mark on it and it said "1". I tell you, I am stupid... What do you mean by "download the latest java software"? Hehehe, I feel like a big moron. Anyway, thanks for trying to help!

ok i think that test shows you have java script enabled. Now go to your billiard web site (by the way post the link to the site here as well) and note exactly what happens when it trys to load.

Please post the link to the site here quickly as i'm going off line soon

Ok, it is www.candystand.com, then I go to arcade tab, then i go to billiards... then it says i do not have javascript enabled and i need it to be i order to play the stupid game. hehehe, thanks again!
