1. what are your views on illegal downloading?
It's illegal, hence it shouldn't be done

2. do you think the actions being taken to prevent downloads are effective or even necessary?
Necessary, yes, effective, nowhere near...

3. do you think the punishments given to convicted downloaders are fair or effective?
No, due to the hype it gets from the media, it's all a big show and only gets more people involved.

i have no problem with it. i can see why people do though

2. do you think the actions being taken to prevent downloads are effective or even necessary?

they are nowhere near effective.

3. do you think the punishments given to convicted downloaders are fair or effective?

i have never heard of anyone being convicted from it so n/a

1. what are your views on illegal downloading?
From a game industry point of view, I think it's one of the main reasons why there's no imaginative titles coming out, as all the companies are paranoid about titles becoming a flop, with the pressure of less revenue due to illegal downloading. It's wrong, and shouldn't be done, but unfortunately it has become an acceptable part of global society, and that's the biggest problem I think.
2. do you think the actions being taken to prevent downloads are effective or even necessary?
Effective, not a bit. DRM is a headache for law abiding purchasers more than it is a headache for illegal downloaders, illegal downloaders, despite media exposure, enjoy a greater degree of legal immunity compared to almost every other crime out there, and there are too many countries where pirates are free to operate. In a global pirate industry, all countries have to be singing from the same hymnsheet for anything to work. Nessecary, definately, as everything needs a place to start.
3. do you think the punishments given to convicted downloaders are fair or effective?
Neither. I don't think the punnishments are fair when the vast majority of people are able to get away with their activities, and a select few are handed over for the slaughter of the big corporations looking for a face to put to their lost profits. Effective, well if the punnishments were effective then illegal downloading wouldn't happen on the scale it is. Simple as that.

1 = illegal is against the law in some countries, but it my country we download whatever we want, when we want, where we want, how we want, however we want !!!. for me honestly illegal downloading actually helps
some ppl who cant get anything off the net. If you were to come in my country and saw "what you're doing is called piracy", well you might loose your life...lol

2 = yes actions are being taken but we don't really hear anything on it.

3 = punishments ?, well i cant answer this question because if i was to be punished for illegal downloading right now i would be behind bars !!!

1. what are your views on illegal downloading?

It has become accepted practice. We the consumer have been given the means to download / copy. We were given VHS to copy tapes, CD writers to copy CD's, DVD writers to copy DVD's. Manufacturers of players have crammed in as many formats as possible to allow the playback of anything you throw at it. As long as we are provided with the means to do this it will be done.

2. do you think the actions being taken to prevent downloads are effective or even necessary?

Effective short term only, it doesn't take long for it to be broken. Necessary yes.

3. do you think the punishments given to convicted downloaders are fair or effective?

Downloaders are the small fry, take away the means and it wouldn't happen.
