Please help! Confused!

I have been reading many reviews of graphics cards and after a while ive become very confused. I need a graphics card that can run DX10 games on the highest settings (not crysis!) at 1024x768 resolution with 16x AF and 8x AA. I was thinking about getting 9600gt but im not sure now... What does Ati have to offer in the mid range section? I hear that the 4850's are pretty bad...
Anything that can run Far Cry 2 at that resolution with highest settings and those filters enabled will satisfy me.
 
4850s are fine, where did you hear they were bad?

If it's out of your price range you could get a 4830, 4770 or a 9800GT

Generally more then 2x AA doesnt make much difference in quality but is a huge impact on frame rates and more then 4-8AF is equally unneeded
 
To be fair, I've got a 9600GT and I can run all the games I've got in 1920x1080 and they're all absolutely fine, like UT3, COD4, D3 etc. if that helps you any...
 
Ok, thanks, just another quick question: I have seen models of the 9600gt with turbocache... are they real or just cheap imitations of 9600gt's?

You already have a thread going where you ask about the turbocache, you should check that if you haven't already. Also, a 4850 is a good deal better than the 9600GT, and the 9800GT, and is on par with a 9800GTX+. So yeah, they definitely aren't bad cards:P However the 4770 is just shy of the 4850 for a lower price, so that winds up being a better deal.
 
It wasn’t till I actually really sat down and looked at the results here and compared them to the HD 4850 that was I becoming more impressed with what the cheaper 9800 GT had to offer over the HD 4850.
