Hi -
I bought a Dell XPS 410 just last week, and it came preloaded with Windows XP Media Center Edition. That was fine, but it had so much junk I decided to install the Windows Vista RC2 in place of it.
When I decided to go back to Windows XP since I didn't like Windows Vista, I booted up with a Windows XP Pro (not originally included) CD-ROM (and yes, I made sure it was first priority.)
It went through all the loading process (the blue screen thing) but when it said "starting up windows" I got a BSOD (saying that windows shut down to protect computer etc... it might be the hard drive.)
So I switched the RAID ON (in the bios) to AUTO DETECT RAID / ATA (or something like that) and I reinstalled Windows XP. It seemed to work, but it didnt show the internet connection wizard on the first boot start up thing.
Anyway, the desktop booted up and everything, but the internet now doesn't work. It worked before without any configuration because I use a router and my other PC works with the internet fine (and they are both hooked up the same way.)
When I go to network connections, it doesn't show anything. It also won't let me use the home and home office network wizard or anything.
I don't know if the hard drive erased a file that makes it so I can go on the internet?
SPECS:
intel core 2 duo e6600
2 gb ddr2 memory
320 GB HDD
ati radeon x1300 pro 256 mb ddr2
Sorry If I didn't explain clearly, I have never had this problem before.
