Please Help High Temps, or so i think

Hey all,
I just bought a new laptop and i think it might be running a little hot. Or so i think anyway. Here is a list of my harware:

Mainboard: Dell03RG89
Processor: Intel Core i7 2720QM @ 2200MHz
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT555M
RAM: 16GB

(if you need more info just ask)

Temps are running at:

Processor: Core1: 59 C
Core2: 58 C
Core3: 55 C
Core4: 54 C
Video: Temp (GPU) 56 C with Fan at 100%

To me this is a little hot no? Shouldn't at idle it be running everything around the 40 C mark? I even bought one of those laptop cooler things (goes under it and its a fan) doesn't seem to do anything lol, think i got jewed on that one.

If you could help me out that would be cool. Let me know what you think, thanks.
 
The laptop coolers never really help... Those temps aren't really that bad, granted at idle they should be slightly lower. Then again, over heating seems to be a trend with dell

That's not terrible, those i7 Quad cores do run pretty hot it seems. I wouldn't be worried unless they go higher than like 85 under load. Even then the thermal cut-off is over 100.
 
I thought those temps were a little high, especially at idle. What temperature is it in the room where you have the computer?
 
My computer room is in the basement, i would say average temp is approx 15C. BUT, when i do have my laptop running, my desktop running, my 26" monitor on and 32" LCD TV with xbox/playstation on, it can reach temps up to (from what i have seen) approx 22-23 C.
 
Remember, it is summer, what's the ambient temperature(room temp) around the computer? Because my Dell laptop is dual-core and idles at 50c with a ambient temp of 39c(89f), give or take, and idles around 40-43c at night. Your temps dont seem to be too much higher than mine, so it could just be the combination of the summer heat and the quad-core naturally running hotter. Ya never know :rolleyes:

Since you're having problems, lets begin at square-one. Doing the following will give us a better picture of your heat issue.

Please, don't do anything else on the computer while working with these programs. Proceed through these instructions and perform all the below steps in the order listed, and do all in normal boot mode NOT safe mode. If you cannot boot normally and all you can boot into is safe mode, tell us. Also, Do not restart your computer unless someone from here or the program Malwarebytes informs you that its necessary to restart. If you cannot get any files to download from the links we have provided, then stop what you are doing and tell us.
  • NOTE: If you cannot get any of these files to download, then download them on another computer. Then put the download file(s) on a USB flash drive and transfer the the file(s) to the problem computer.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware HERE or HERE and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    o and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware​
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Now, generate a HijackThis log.

Download the HijackThis installer from HERE.

Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log.

ALSO, let me know what temp monitor program you're using.

Ummm... i think i'll just keep an eye on it for now. That seems a little over the top.

Does anyone know of a good temp gadget? I downloaded one that's called GPU Monitor, it uses RivaTuner. Problem is i couldn't get it to work. The "Low Level monitoring" i couldn't get to record.
 
my comp came with nvidia system tools and they have a system monitor that shows the temps., usage, and more for gpu, cpu, ram, mobo, and hdd's

Just trying to find this (it's for my laptop). I am running a NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M. Do you know where a person could download it? I am on NVIDIA site and looking but no luck so far. Also, is it a widget kind of thing? I like the widget idea, it's fast reference without having to open another program.

This is what i am using right now. The only problem is when i minimize, the widget comes up, but after a few minutes the program will crash and close out the widget and program. I then have to open the program back up to view again.BTW this CPUID is kick ass for knowing all info on hardware.
 
UPDATE:

I am still having issues with this problem. Temps seem to be high, reaching temps of low 60's. I realize that laptops do run hotter then desktops. That NVIDIA's cards (this one is specific GeForce 555M) does run hot naturally. The only concern i am having is if this temp is high for summer months is normal.

Right now while itunes open and running music, and web browsing my temps are as follows:

Core 1 52 C
Core 2 48 C
Core 3 51 C
Core 4 56 C

GPU 45 C ----- seems like an ok temp for idle.

Room temp is 17 C

Please let me know what you think. Also any ideas to keep cool and any good widgets out there that keep accurate temps (i am using PC wizard right now, but crashes if minimized for some reason). Thank you guys for all your help.

You can say that again I remember my olde Dimension 3000 back in the day it had a block heatsink attatched to it with no fan except for a case fan well away lol. Also which didn't help there wasn't a temp sensor on the motherboard (damn dell) probally because they didn't want you to know how hot the processor got ha. Still the processor worked without fail since 2007 and is still working now infact those p4 Prescotts are damn unkillable it seems. Anyway for temp monitoring software try Real temp it will monitor and record min temp and max temp and you can see what the range of temperature is to determine if it is a real problem.
 
Thanks dude, I'll try out that "Real Temp". And gee by the way thanks for letting me know that i just wasted my money on this Dell. lol. If it wasn't for my employee discount there and saving $1000 i wouldn't have bough from Dell anyway, but that made me choose Dell. Now i'm scared lol.
 
Hey guys/gals,

So i am back on this thread :)

I just got through running Prime95 for about an hour and while using RealTemp the temperatures of my laptop are as follows:

Min: Max:
Core1: 50C 85C
Core2: 50C 87C
Core3: 46C 83C
Core4: 50C 80C

The ambient temp around laptop is around about 15C

I am using a CoolMaster Laptop Cooler

I wouldn't mind getting your opinions on how these temps look.
