Is there any way of doing this for free and is there an asy way to do, I am hopless with this sort of thing,
Thanks

Sounds like you dont have any antivirus software on your computer? Theres a number of free anit virus softwares online, try AVG and get it updated. If you know the name of the virus, you could check the web, or symantec.com for specific removal tools for that virus. Good luck.

No i dont think I have one, how did this thing manage to get into my computer tho, Im not too clued up on these things but I never go on any dodgy websites?

All of what lynx6200 is quite correct, and in addition if you not running AV software and are not up to date with OS patches, your machine can get infected just by being connected to the internet if you don't have a firewall running.

Current statistics say an unprotected/unpatched (windows) machine just being connected will get infected in less than 10 minutes.

Follow lynx6200 advice and get the free AVG. Also go to
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp?lid=staticcomp_za
to get a free firewall, or if running XP sp2 you should be OK already.

If any of this doesn't make sense, post back to say so and I'm sure folk will help.

sounds like one of the desktop hijacks. please to the following first, then we'll clean up the desktop hijack: :)

1. Disable System Restore (right-click on "My Computer", Properties, System Restore, check Turn off System Restore).

2. Enable viewing of all files/folders (open "My Computer", Tools, Folder Options, View, click "View hidden folders and files" and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types").

3.Run the online scans below.

4. Now, download Ad-Aware SE, and SpyBot, (both are free, see links below) install them and update them seperately. Then re-boot to safe mode (pressing F8 when booting up) and run a FULL system scan with Ad-Aware, (not the Smart Scan), and check all the items it finds/let it remove them. Run SpyBot and scan, let it remove what it finds. REBOOT your machine and run them again, TAKE NOTE of what items still remain that they couldn't get ride of! Some items will be taken off from a 2nd scan and some items they will NOT be able to remove at all, (Note what those items are).

"Hide extensions for known file types"
This has to be, by far the worst idea ever and should be disabled by everyone, I know MS did this to make the GUI more friendly (and Mac like) but it's an awful idea. Seeing the file extensions is important becuase many 'clever' viri will send themselves as a file named 'blah.txt.exe' and have the text icon to trick the user into thinking its a text file and opening it.

Hmmm

I got rid of a very simmilar problem in the following way. After attemptiing to delete it unsuccessfully, I thought that system restore would do it. And it worked! I moved it a day earlier and all good. Then I cleared all restore data because the virus was found there as well. Now everything is clean.

JAN :D

You can download a free trial of kaspersky on their website, or do a google search on it. It is by far better virus protection than norton or mcaffee
