Please help! IM GOING TO KICK THIS COMPUTER!

Ok i have tried everything i know to fix this computer but nothing is working. Its a pretty old Pentium computer w/ windows xp. It has these really old bios that make no sense and it makes me want to throw it out the window. My sister wants to use it to paly sims 3 and so i said i would fix it up. So i poped in windows xp, booted to windows.... Checked the boot sequence, cd drive was first so i tried again, booted to windows.... Disconnected the harddrive, went to windows setup. Ok, formatted the harddrive. Now it says something like nldr not found or something like that! What the heck! I jsut used this disc yesterday so it is bootable. I tried f8 f2 f12 nothing! The boot menu does not exist! Please help this is driving me nuts....

when inside the comp since you said something about connecting the hdd, did you touch the ram or anything, i had a boot problem once and once i reseated the ram it fixed it. just pull the stick out then put them back in and try to boot.

It is NTLDR btw and it is the Windows bootloader, if you have formatted the disk this will not be present, did you install windows on afterward?

I fail to see why you need to install XP if it already had and you only needed to make so she could play the SIMS 3, this, by the sounds of it would need a hardware upgrade.

If you have just installed windows I suggest you just start again, if you reall want to save that install you can use the windows xp recovery console to manually put it in the right place, but it wouldn't be worth the effort if you just formatted it anyway.

Try some steps, such run a live linux dvd and choice memory test (if you are familiar with command prompt, try hiren boot cd). Try to replace the hard with one another. And finally try to replace the cd setup of windows xp with one another cd edition , such windows xp service 3 include.

If the cd isn't booting then most likely the cdrom drive has failed reading cd's. They do go out from time to time.

OK i tried with another cd drive and another hard drive. Origional hard drive said NTLDR missing. And the new one said bootmanager not present. They are both empty formatted discs. Please help!
