Please help me build a computer

Hey guys,
so i just got back into WoW (I know, FML) but my PC is 5 years old and needs to be upgraded, everything is real choppy. I dont have 800 bucks to blow right now but i would like to start picking up parts to build my PC. Also i would like to note that i have never ever built a PC myself in my life. I would like the budget to be around 800 at the most, not sure if that is possible. the Processor and Graphics card are the most important right? If anyone geek wanna lend me a hand in this endeavor i would appreciate it, you dont have to find prices for me, just tell me what i need and i will go and find the stuff. Or if your really bored wanna give me links to it i would be okay with that too! hehe

I was thinking something along the lines of a i5 - i7 processor, but i'm not good with the lingo with all the numbers, and i would also like a 1gb graphics card, i hear the ATI 5780 are not bad, and i'm assuming those are the two parts that will cost the most? Also is it a good idea to start with a barebone computer?

after some research i found an example and wanted to know what your thoughts are on this build as far as things that could be upgraded or downgraded:

It's a bit slower than the i5, it's socket LGA775. It's hard to find mobos for that socket anymore, the decent ones are much more expensive than their 1156 counterparts, it's pretty much dead, you'd have no upgrade path.

Speaking of which, you might want to wait until Jan 9th before ordering this build because Intel are releasing a new processor line which is to replace LGA1156. If you are willing to wait then I think the best option would be to see how good these new CPUs are, then build

EDIT: Although that is a good price you've found on that Q9300, you may want to post it in the hot deals thread for any LGA775 upgraders
 
i'm in no rush for make this build, i am just trying to source parts at the moment, i think i'm going to get a graphics card and the processor first. Should i also wait till after the 9th before i source for a graphics card also? or will that not change?
 
i think i have found a way better deal but i need some help matching some stuff please. i hear i have to match the dimm socket to the ram i want, and they also have to match in bus speed to be efficient. This is a whole different language to me so can anyone help me? This is the new build i am thinking of doing.

so the thing in question is that with that processor, what would be the best match of motherboard and 6gb of ram? If you do take advantage of that deal and take 1090T CPU get a mobo with the AM3 socket. Avoid the AM2 + socket it is older and won't be supported later Also Avoid getting a mobo from

AOpen
ASRock
BIOSTAR
ECS
Intel
PCCHIPS

Why am I blacklisting these brands? With the exception of Intel, they all have a track record of low performance, cheap parts (resulting in direct failures and sometimes consequential failures i.e., motheboard fails and then also causes something else to fail). Intel was included because their motherboards dont offer anything useful that can be had from any other (even budget oriented) manufacturer. These are just suggestions though.

okay what about if i went with the 1090t and the MSI 870A-G54 Socket AM3 870 ATX Motherboard. What RAM would i pair it with?

To know what type of RAM to get all you need to know is what type of memory is supported by your board. In this case DDR3 RAM at either 800/1066/1333/1600*(OC) MHz.

* 1600 OC is when your board is overclocked.

This is a great board and for 105 its a steal.

The system is dual channel, so you could do 2x2gb gskill 1600 c8 from newegg for 65. or the c9 for 53. I'd get the c8/lower is better/ and 1600 speed is faster.

A 550w for no future CF or a 650w w/ future cf may be better than 600w.
