PLEASE HELP ME :) cpu upgraded ! Temp high ???

hello everyone, i just need some good advice as i have been getting different views from all over !the situation is this :

i used to have an athlon xp2000+ 266fsb in my pc, i have just upgraded the cpu to an xp2400+ 266fsb. i used the existing heatsink and fan on the new cpu. it was a socket A and the motherboard is a Biostar M7VIG.
when i have checked the running temp of the new cpu it is showing temps of between 51-55 deg, now some people i have spoke to have said that athlon xp's do run hot and this temp is normal , yet other's have said it is way too hot.
can anyone put my mind at rest and advise me ?

any help gratefully recieved, thanks in advance :)
 
Hmm

I would like to see it hitting mid 50's on load, rather than on IDLE. However, from what I know, they can go way higher and will still work fine. They are much less sensitive than the A64 for example.

It

It will not hurt if you get a new HSF. However, it may be a bit harder finding one. The stock HSF is not bad, but replacement HSFs from other manufacturers tend to do a better job. I would recommend the Arctic Cooling line or perhaps something from Thermaltake. Do post your choice here and we will let you know.

i have seen 3 heatsink and fans, which would you recommend to get temp down ?

i dunno, those ones were naturally hotter, i think that smount of heat is perfectly normal. i know it can handle 50C, an old computer of mine had the same proc and it went into the 60's-70's
 
My reccomendation would be to take the extra precaution and stick with a heatstink fan regardless of what temperature is considered normal. Better safe than sorry. Unless of course money is an issue.
Have you considered other factors for cooling such as the case? Air flow may not be at optimal level as what I've seen with many of my colleague's computers in the past. Perhaps even try cleaning the case out.
