I am building a new gaming desktop that is going to be pretty top of the line, and I am spending about $1500. However, I am a poor college student though, and truthfully, a laptop is more practical (and arguably, useful) for me. I can't justify spending 1500-2000 on a gaming laptop because I know a gaming desktop built for half that price could probably totally spank it. So, what I have been thinking about doing is spending $1500 on the desktop, and finding the cheapest "get the job done laptop (get online, word processing, possibly audio recording for a lecture, etc...)" that I can find. I don't really care about the OS (though probably some version of Windows is best) or the specs, I just want it to work so I can get online and put openoffice on it. I have a wireless PC card (and a cantena that I built to go with it) that I would like to play with, so built in wireless isn't even needed.
