Hello, please I need some help to determine what problem my computer has. Basically after sometime I've been using it, the screen freezes and then the screen stops working and also the CPU.

What can it be and how can I fix it? Please help me...

Yeah, that's exactly what I think, but I have tried to find how to fix and I have not find any solution. Can anyone please help me? Maybe a little guide.... PLEASE!!!

Is this a prebuilt or custom built computer? What are the specs?

To check the memory, download a program called Memtest+, make it a bootable cd and let it run for at least an hour.

It is a custom built. INTEL Core 2 Duo 1.16 Ghz, 1 GB RAM and 80 GB HDD. I'm gonna check using that software you just told me and see what happens. If I find a problem on the memory how can I fix it??? Please help me...

if the memory fails any test you will have to replace it, or you could take them all out and try them one at a time until you find the faulty stick, when you do if you have enough memory you could just dump the faulty stick and run with less memory if you have enough.

If the ram turns out ok, I would then check the temps. You could be overheating. Download a program called HWMonitor and use that to check your temps.

If there is errors with the memory, you would need to find the faulty stick if you have more than one stick of memory and remove it or just install different memory.

Thanks a lot for your help. I used the software Memtest+ and it turned out that the memory did not have any errors and it even freezed during the checking. So that just leave me with the problem of the temps or the dust. It has been a while since the last time I cleaned it. I'm going to go that way.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions...

The MemTest+ run for about half and hour it ran 2 passes and found no error. I thougth it might be a temps problem. I checked it and nothing. I clean up all the dust and nothing. I certainly dont know what to do...

Hope you can help me find a solution... Please...

I have to say that I gave up and send my desktop to a technical support shop. At the end the technician end up telling me that it was in fact a temps problem and that 2 of the 3 fans that my CPU has were no longer working properly. That was the root of the problem. I hope that by tomorro or Friday it will be fixed.
