my computer just stopped POST after a lighting storm hits. :( right now, i need to know whats the problem, is it the motherboard or the cpu? when i turn on the computer, the fan and other things are running normally but it doesnt have this "da da da" noise when i turn it on... i tried to reset CMOS but it is the same. anyone know what the problem is? :(

Sounds like your mobo could be fried. Try and test all the components in another computer. Hopefully some of them survived.

Not the smartest thing to do...leaving your comp on in a lightning storm. But ya, it's more than likely either your mobo or CPU that are for sure fried.

which one likely to be fried? i hope is not my cpu -.-"....what does the cpu looks like when its fried? i took out the cpu, i duno is it fried or not. the metal at the middle seems pink, though. will it be pink after used or pink means fried? other than the metal seems pink, other areas are still very clean.

here is what the cpu looks like, the only difference is the metal in the center is pink instead of black. http://pcweb.mycom.co.jp/news/2002/10/02/13al.jpg

Edited: btw, if the AMD cpu is fried, will amd's 3 years warranty replace one for me?

If a lightning storm kills a computer the high transients takes out the majority of the hardware components.

hmm surge protectors say they have like 50,000$ protection against equipment connected to it. does it mean they will pay for your computer?

Can surge protection save your components if this happens???

Thats the whole point of surge protection.

---------------------------------

likely to be fried, mobo - definitely, cpu - most probably, RAM - almost definately, HDD - probably still ok, PSU - still fine, CD drives - probably still fine, PCI or AGP cards - probably fried. sorry

i do have a pretty expansive surge protector which i connnected my pc to. my computer got shut down due to power went out but the power came back few seconds later. when i turn on the pc, it wont POST anymore. what scared me the most is that i dont heard this beep when i turn on the computer. everything is running normally but no POST and no beep.

bump for more help....
