Hey!

I just built a computer with the following specs;

MSI K8N neo 2 platnium motherboard
AMD 64 3500+
80Gb hardrive
1Gb ram
Albatron GeFORCE FX5900 series graphics card

I think there may be something wrong with the graphics card, because when I try to play movies or animations they dont play properly.

Can anyone tell me what might be the problem or specify the best graphics card I could buy to replace this 1, that would run the best on this system.

Cheers,
Josh

When I try to play movies or animations they dont play properly.
1. Are the movies you try and play DVD's, or does it affect all video files (eg. avi, mpg?)
2. What do you mean by not "playing properly"? Is there jerkiness, lag, etc...
3. If you were looking to upgrade what would be your budget?

Quote from PM:
All formats dont play. There are pink lines and stuff and they freeze every 3 seconds. Even when I download something from internet explorer where the file flies across there are all these pink lines and blur.

I am willing to pay around $350 Australian.

Is a MSI FX5700 VTD128 graphics card a good buy?? Would it support my system??

MSI K8N neo 2 platnium motherboard
AMD 64 3500+
80Gb hardrive
1Gb DDR ram
xp Home

Out of these 2 what would be the best graphics card?

1) MSI NX6600 GT 128MB DDR3

2) MSI NX660 256MB DDR

Would these cards work with my specs;

80Gb hardrive
1Gb DDR ram
xp Home

If a graphics card has DDR3 memory, does your motherboard have to support DDR3 memory for it to work??
No, the memory is on the graphics card i.e. the other side of a PCI bridge, so accessing it is handled by the card itself.

that card has an extra power input, have you plugged it in?

Yes, a good question that needs an answer.
Frequently, a machine will hang during the boot process at the point where it switches from VGA to proper "hi-res" Windows mode if the power connector is missing as the graphics chip just can't run without it.
So it seems (at the moment) the extra power plug is connected ?

There isn't that much between the cards in practice.

The card with 256Mb has the edge as it can locally hold more texture maps (more memory) and the speed of GT versions is often slightly less.
But would you really notice ?
If you're an out and out gamer .... yes
else ... not so easy to answer.

Still, if a gamer fanatic I reckon you'd be listing a much faster (expensive :) ) card in the first place ;)

Have you tried updating the drivers? (If you're currently on the latest driver, then try an older version- just find the driver version that works the best for you)

That's all I can think of at the moment that hasn't been mentioned yet...

Updated drivers tend to fix minutiae details ..but every so often ... ya get something special.

For the very latest, but remember they might not be fully stable, take a look at www.guru3d.com

You early PCI-express users out there need to know this.

Codec problem. Have a look at my codec guide here

Not compared to what you already have
