Please Help! Spyware/Malware problems!

New Member
Somehow i ended up with some serious spyware problems on my computer. my toolbar is blinking and says "your computer is infected with malware, it might crash...etc." and my homepage on the internet is now a huge alert screen.
i already ran adware se and norton antivirus a few times each. this did nothing. what should i do??? (note: i am not the most computer literate)

please, please help! i need my computer!

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

ok, i downloaded it and tried to open it. it gave me a red screen that says: fichierprocess.exe missing! and process.exe missing unzip all the archive in a folder. press any key to continue

Turn off your anti-virus program and download it again, right-click on the Smitfraudfix icon and select "extract all".
 
i think i may be in over my head now..:(
i tried to turn it off and it still won't let me open it....i don't know what else to do.....:(
 
Ok, try it the old way, this might work, it depends what version of the infection you've got.

You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido Security Suite:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main Ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
  5. Exit Ewido. DO NOT run a scan yet.

If you do not already have Ad-Aware SE 1.06 installed, follow these download and setup instructions. Also check for updates:

Again, do NOT run a scan yet.


Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

Close all open windows and hit "Fix checked".

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again --- this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish --- this may take a while; please be patient.

Next, run Ad-aware and perform a full scan. Remove everything found.

Now open Ewido Security Suite
  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives. You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one. If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Close Ewido

Next go to Start -> Control Panel, click Display -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Web -> Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Restart your computer in normal mode.

Run the Panda online virus scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Finally, restart your computer once more, and please post a new HijackThis log.

ok. the list only shows items that begin with R1 - HKLM, not any of the first ones on that start with R1 - HKCU. i can't read the whole line because they are too long to show up on my monitor.
should i just check all 4 that start with R1 - HKLM and the 2 that start with R0 even if i cant see the whole line?

i just want to make sure im not checking of things i shouldnt...sorry to be a pain
 
It should be on the desktop, did you boot in safemode with the same user acount that you downloaded Smitrem on?
 
yeah, for some reason it's not there. i went ahead and did the other steps. i guess i'll try to resave that and do it again after i finish with the scans.
