I just picked up my aunts computer to speed it up and to my suprise on startup it asks me to choose either one of the same operating systems. Its windows xp home edition and it displays it twice. they recently had the computer formated so obviously someone screwed up! I cant for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the other one. Its wierd.. the same operating system on the same partition. There is only 1 hard disk drive. Its not partitioned. how can i fix this? Its slowing down the computer like crazy!
thanks alot.

start>right click my computer>properties>(look through the tabs i forget the one but it will have a startup and recovery settings ont eh bottom of one of them)>startup and recovery settings>edit (i think it is that) and then just remove the secount line in the text editor and save it. it should just boot to the first one now

You can change that by right clicking My Computer, Advanced, (startup and Recovery) Settings, and then edit and take out the second partition. However will this get rid of the second operating system or just hide it? Ill see if it speeds it up and post again!

well i dont think there is two os'es i have seen this before but there is only one operating system. it just acts as if there are two. for the slowness, it is probably lack of ram or just a lot of bloat ware

I just replaced the 256mbs of ram to a 1 gig and the difference was way less then it should have been. this fixed the start up problem and for some reason it is faster! i know it sounds kinda fishy but it loads everything faster! I wasnt sure if that would do it but it did! good to know for next time i guess! Thanks alot for the quick response!
