I have an xfx 6950 2gb card. It's the reference car model number 695A-CNFC. This card has dual bios and I'd like to get another one without paying $350 for it. Are there any other brands that I would be able to unlock the shaders and overclock it like the one I have now that may be cheaper? Or should I just buy another one off of ebay? I dont know if this matters but I have the EK full cover water block for my 6950 and will be getting another for my second card. Thanks for any help

Thanks for the link. What do you mean by locking up though? I haven't had any problems with mine and I've had it for about 6 months now.

Locked up like the card is bricked and useless. It seems to be hit or miss on whether or not it does. If I remember right Navokonaza had one that fried in 4 months. Not meant to scare you or anythng. Just telling you what I have heard about it.

Overclocking one is pointless much less two. But it is fun :P

@armysgt1- no problem. I have no idea if it would have blown your card but I figured I might as well tell you anyway. The liquid cooling loop that you have should let you hit some pretty high clocks :D I got mine to do some good OCing on air. I would love to see what they can do on water.

Sure I can get higher clocks but in Furmark I see no improvement in FPS. The FPS actually drops when I go any higher than 870/1350 even with higher voltage and it becomes way less stable. I don't know why this is. Plus I've seen people with 1000/1400 with the same card. I'm wondering if it is the shaders that I have unlocked that may be messing with it.

It is possible. I have mine at 940/1400 with voltage adjustments. Any higher and I get artifacts. I also found that when I was adjusting the voltage there were times that I needed a lot to get over a certian clock then after that I would go for 20 or 30Mhz without touching it at all.

What FPS are you getting and what exact model monitor? You may find that CPU is bottling at that resolution where the CPU is much more of a factor. Can you overclock the CPU any further to see if you get more FPS? I would also remind you that most monitors have a refresh rate of 60Hz, so if you are aiming for more than 60FPS, you are wasting your time.

Doubtful on one 6950 with an 1100T at 4GHz. Mine doesn't bottlneck at all with a lesser CPU as well as higher clocks on the 6950.

Bottlenecks are exaggerated, unless you're running anything Core 2 Duo or lower you won't see much if any bottlenecks.

Well, most games only use 2 cores, so the fact that it has 6 or 4 is not relevant. Also, he is running close to 5760 x 1080 (3 x 24 inch monitors) resolution, which in modern games bottleneck that CPU. There are various examples on the internet where smaller resolutions in games life Crysis bottle the 1100T.

Also, logically, if he raises the clocks and receives no return in FPS, it does point to the CPU. A way to tell is to monitor the CPU usage during gaming or overclock and see if that gives more FPS.

I disagree, my E8400 was definitely bottlenecked in games with even an overclocked 5770. It would run at 100% during gaming, and the E8400 is a faster processor for games than a 1100T that ony have 2 threads due to the architecture efficiency.

Look, im not saying its definitly bottlenecked, and don't take much notice of 3DMark, but it sounds like your system is suffering due to lower clock speed on the CPU, rather than GPU.

I haven't officially tested my gpu clocks in games. I really haven't had time. I have only tested in furmark and 3dMark 11. However, the only games I play in eyefinity are my racing games. For Crysis and other games I normally only use my one monitor because my framerate takes about a 20FPS hit from eyefinity. My monitors are model number S231HL by the way. Also, Im not sure if I explained it thoroughly but in Furmark when I would raise the clock and voltage past a certain point it would actually decrease the framerate. It's like there's a sweet spot that won't go any further. Sorry I haven't responded sooner I've been working but thanks so much for the help.
