Do you have a Windows Vista recovery disc?

I think you learned the hard way. Never turn off Windows Vista when it is in the middle of an upgrade. It will mess up your operating system.

Hmm if you go back to the store and tell them what happened, they might be able to fix it for you because they'll have the discs and SHOULD know what to do. If not, ask them for a disc because every PC SHOULD come with a back up disc in case of emergencies like this. Either way, you're going to need that disc for repair or recovery.

if you can boot up in safe mode, try uninstalling the update.
go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> View installed updates.
there you can uninstall most updates.

if that doesn't work, you can try system restore in safe mode.

if you can't boot up in safe mode, the only thing i can think of is a recovery disk.
