good morning everybody ,I cannot install or uninstall programs anymore because I get a dialog that says (the windows installer service could not be accessed.this can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed )this problem started a month ago. reinstalling my old windows(version) CD might not be an option ,unless I can just find and install the windows installer file,is that possible ?
my other problem is that when I bought my 2003 DELL DIMENSION 2300, the OS was taking 6 gb of space out of 30gb , then I added about 4gb of programs and various files ,but over the years it went from 10gb to 23gb used space for misterious reasons , I tried everything to find out what is filling all the extra space , disc cleanup ,registry mechanic, defragmentation, delete browsing history etc....can you please help me ???

I would run an error check on your hard drive. It may help.

Right-click on a hard drive via My computer -> Properties -> Tools and click on Error-Checking Check Now. A pop-up will come up with Scan for system Errors and Attempt to fix system errors. Check the second box (Scan for system Errors) because your hard drive disk may not have errors. Let it run and fix errors if it finds them.

The error check may help but it sounds to me like you may need to reinstall Windows likely because part of the operating system is corrupt. Be sure to backup all the data you value to a separate storage device before you do a reinstall of Windows.

Also, the mysterious space used up is most likely your OS taking up space. XP takes up 6-8GB alone. So I'd go with 2048MB's advice and just re-install it. And back it up of course... :)
