Please look at this build....ready to order

I am new at all this and have never put my own computer together. It looks pretty easy though and I am ready! :D I just need help with the build I put together. I need to know that everything checks out right and will go together properly. I have been researching for weeks, so I'm still learning.

I just added in a rw dvd and wasn't sure if a brand really matters. I just really picked one with the best ratings.

I would love any opinions that would save me some $$$. Thats always a good thing! :)

Also, is there anything I forgot? I am still without a media reader (which I really need since I am an amateur photographer). I also need some suggestions for a wireless card.

Thanks in advance. :)

Its looking good! Where are you buying this? I very highly recommend Newegg. www.newegg.com if you are located in the US, and www.newegg.ca if you are in Canad. Unfortunately those are the only to countries where Newegg ships to.

Seriously? You wouldn't change anything? I'm sure it couldn't be perfect as I have never done this before! LOL

I'm still debating between sticking with the AMD or switching to an i5. I'm hearing that the i5 will really out perform the AMD Phenom 6 core. I would love to hear different thoughts on this.

I will buy everything from Newegg which is where I found everything.

Now that I know your budget AND where you are getting the parts, I can tell you what I'd personally get:

Motherboard:
Asus M4A79XTD EVO

CPU:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz

GPU:
HIS H687F1G2M Radeon HD 6870 1GB

RAM:
G.Skill Ripjaw Series 4GB DDR3 1600

HDD:
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200RPM

The cheapest name brand you can find will work fine.

You won't NEED thermal compound, but if you want it anyway, that's fine.

Case is fine.

PSU is fine. Overkill, but fine.

Operating system is fine as well.

My total comes out to $1091.93, + shipping. Minus $35 mail-in-rebates, makes it $1056.93+ shipping. Shipping will be $35+/- so you will be in the middle of your budget at about $1100.

Thanks much. I'm gonna take a look at your suggestions. Why no thermal compound? I'm a noob at this, but all the tutorials I have checked out have advised using the thermal compound?

My PSU is overkill due to the fact I may want to upgrade later on. Is the mobo you suggested SLI/crossfire compatible?

Do you have an ideal set up using intel? Whichnprocessor would you recommend?

I would.go with this motherboard:

USB 3.0 and data 6 gb/s.

That psu is overkill. This should be more than enough even for 6870s in crossfire:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207003&Tpk=xfx 750

Thermal compound is included with the included heatsink (preapplied). If you want to overclock I would get a new heatsink though. Do you plan on it?

I would go with amd, at least if you are on a budget (what is it by the way?). Depending on your budget, you might want to just go with this cpu:

The thermal compound stuff you will get from the manufacture with the cpu heatsink will work so Buying it is not necessary, BUT, I just replaced the manufacture compound on my motherboard with the artic silver 5, Granted it is an intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, but still it cooled it off from the 84 Degreese C it was running while gaming and even internet browsing to between 40 and 60 Degreese C depending on what I am doing. If I am playing games it usually hovers at about 60 to 61 Degreese C. Internet 50 - 55 Degrese C, Idol 40 Degrese C. This compound with a good CPU cooler works great :D I would suggest replacing the stock heatsink with something like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=Socket_AM3_cpu_fan-_-35-154-011-_-Product

BUT be sure you read the feed back because allot of people have problems with these cause of their size. One of the comments on this one says he is using the ripjaw ram and the cpu fan just barley clears the heat sink on the ram. Yes it is a little overkill but I am all about keeping my computer cool. Heat kills. Or if you want in the future you could do some water cooling, but I dont think that is neccessary unless you plan on over clocking. For now the stock fan and heatsink should work.

I would stick with the stock heatsink unless you plan on overclocking. They are usually good enough. Plus then you can always use it for a little while and then decide if you need to get a different one.

I completely forgot about USB3 and SATA 6GB/s, good thing you caught it.

Agreed. I've always used the stock heat sink, it has never caused problems for me. Sometimes, you can even get a couple hundred MHZ using the stock heatsink. Just be careful, and watch the temps ;)

Let us know what you decide!

I use speed fan to watch my temps, It has an overclocking tab in there as well as provides voltages usage, obviously the speed of the fans, all other sorts of useable data. Just as suggestion of a program to watch the temps, of course you can get one with the windows gadgets too.

I'm sure it works great, but I use PCWizard for that, just minimize it and you have the CPU temps, individual core temps, and GPU temps :) Takes next to no resources as well.

Depending on your windows version you also might want to use core temp (I believe that's the name). Nice and accurate and works splendidly with a free desktop gadget so you don't have to do anything other than turn your head to see the temps.

That is pretty much what speed fan does. Except it only shows the one temp of your choice in the task bar. But if you mouse over it it will give you all of those temps. Handy if you dont want to go back to your desk top to look at the Gadget randomly :D I am going to have to give PC wizard a try ^.^

how is going down to the taskbar easier than just looking at a gadget on the desktop in the upper right hand corner?

EDIT: well i guess it could be a little easier if you are only running one monitor.

What about this guys? I certainly don't want to ill-advise anyone, so pls comment .

i really should start looking to see if parts have deals :P

i would go with the g. skill. lower voltage but same speed and timings.

i would probably go with the first but that is over budget. if he can go higher then i would DEFINITELY say get that board/cpu. excellent board (i have it).

also, for the psu, 850w is overkill, especially with 2 6870s (assuming you do crossfire down the road). this xfx 750w will be more than enough.

i'll let someone else find the combo including it :P
