My computer was infected couple weeks ago .. I installed AVG Free edition and was able to remove the virus .. the only problem now is that my computer is super slow .. when i first start it ir seems to be ok but i gets slower and slower as i use it .. i run XP.

According to your log, it running Vista not XP. And also avg is not installed according to the log.

Did you post the correct log? There is a lot of cleanup required. Let me know if this is the correct log.

However, you said you only ran AVG which won't catch most of todays infections. Please do the following.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Post a new hijackthis log after running malwarebytes. Post the malwarebytes log first and then the hijackthis log.

Sorry, I am running Vista not XP (was thinking about my other computer)

I Ran Malware and Hijack and attaching the same below. Doesn't look like anything was found by Malware .. but I am not sure how to analyze the hijack file .. note that when I ran Hijackthis, it took less than 20 sec to complete!!! i thought it normally takes 20 min or so??? And by the way, I do have AVG installed .. ..anyway, here are the files:

I'm sorry, but if avg was installed and running, I would see it in the log. However, I do see a Symantec/Norton product in your log. Thats why i'm asking if you gave me the correct log as AVG is not listed.

However, since you say the machine slows down over time, lets do some deeper scans.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.


In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

Humm, i do have AVG installed and it is AVG that's blocking the virus right now .. I have the AVG icon on top and as as soon as I turn it off or remove it, there is this fake shield that comes up saying my "windows security alert .." and eventually forcing my to purchase a fake software .. the only time I had norton was when i first bought my PC and i think it came with one month or one year free norton.

As a matter of fact, when i installed and ran Combofix, i got an alert saying I have AVG and I should disable it before running Combofix .. anyway, i disabled AVG and ran combo fix .. here are the logs for Combofix, Hijackthis, and Maleware .

Just a note that when i rn Hijackthis, it took only 10 sec to run, is that normal?
