Hey everyone I'm new here and I just wanted to know if anyone has any input or suggestions about my build. I was wondering what case and motherboard i should use and if all these parts together are compatible for high end gaming, media usage and multitasking.
I've chosen...
An Intel Core i7 Processor Extreme Edition for my CPU,
DDR3-2000 for the RAM (going to use Mushkin or Crucial),
For graphics display I'm goin with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX,
WD Caviar Black 1 TB SATA for the hard drive,
a nice Sony BWU-200S blu-ray drive
and the Creative Labs PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional Series Sound Card
(I also have a samsung SyncMaster 930B which I am going to use for a moniter-will it be HD compatible?)

The extreme edition is pretty much pointless... For 2000mhz memory, G.skill trident series is great. GTX285/295 are excellent gpu's, the Caviar black is an amazing hard drive. I would drop from the $1000 extreme to the $300 i7 920, use the extra on a nice mountainmods case and watercooling. What kind of budget are you looking at for the rig overall? We could help you with a list that gets you the best bang for the buck.

My limit right now is 5,000 and I'm willing to stretch that a little bit if it makes the difference.
What are you going to be using it for, gaming? If so, i would recommend spending more like ~$2-3k, get a good rig. Then use what you save to upgrade it later on down the road, such as when the GT300 graphics cards come out.

You don't need to spend $5000 to have a good computer $2500 should be enough for any body that wants to play high end games.

sorry about not specifying on the graphics card but i think I may go with
Intel Core i7 Processor Extreme Edition
G.SKILL DDR3 PC 16000 CL9 3GB/6GB kit
ASUS P6T7 WS Supercomputer LGA 1366 Intel X58 CEB Intel Motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295
2 500 gig WD caviar black hard drives set up for a RAID 0 config and 1 for backup
Creative Labs PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional Series Sound Card
and the Sony BWU-200S for my optical drive
Everything should be compatible I just need an expensiver controller for the HDD, a case and a cooler
or any other suggestions

The cooler is easy just get a Cooler Master V8 there the best for i7. The case is even eaiser get an Antec 900 or 1200 but get the best you can afford. As for the expensiver controller I have no Idea since I have never needed one.

Id suggest not going with the extreme. The only place an extreme edition is worth it is if you plan on going sub zero with dry ice or liquid nitrogen. A core i7 920 would save $600 or so and overclock just as well on air. Heck, with the money you save you could get a mountain mods case and liquid cooling for your cpu..

Yep that i7 extreme is really unnecessary and just a big wast of money I suggest you get the 920. Then use the money for something else like a really nice case, another GTX 295, a nice monitor, or another HDD. Just don't get the extreme its total wast of money $1,000 for one CPU now that is over priced I can't believe Intel even went there that's why I stick with AMD they always have good prices.
