Hello, I'm looking to build myself a computer. My budget is 3100. I've already chosen a keyboard, speakers, surge protectorand wireless card. Is there any upgrades I should make? Also, please check for compatibility.

Thanks!

Decent case, not my personal favorite, but it's not my decision :)

And I wouldnt use that PSU. It may be enough to handle an 8800GTS, but not if you wanted to SLI them, and it only has dual +12V rails.

And go with Vista Ultimate x64 for only $80 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116216

thanks OMEGA,

I upgraded the MOBO to the one you suggested. I'll also defintely upgrade to harddrive, but newegg is loading painfully slow.
For the PSU, do you think I'd be okay with only (2) 12+ rails?
and, if in the future I do SLI I'll def upgrade the PSU.

And I'll also take your suggestion to go with Vista Ultimate.

Thanks!

Just one thing? Why are you buying 2 dvdr? direct copying from one to another is less efficient and makes more errors

First off, get this memory instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034

At that price, you might look into getting 4GB? (2 of those 2x1GB sets)

Also, why get that expensive of a processor but only get a 8800GTS? Think about dropping the processor to an E6600, E6700, or Q6600, and getting a 8800GTX instead.

Will it be more reasonable to:
1. get E6600 + Water cooling.
2. good pair of RAM.
3. WD Rapor x2 at RAID 0. Then third HD for storage of data

By the way, samsung monitor is better than Viewsonic.
And with your budget, you strongly recommend you buying a sound card

Alright thanks everybody, I've changed my case (it has liquid cooling) to :
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2478147&Tab=0&NoMapp=0

I'm definetely not going to be getting the quad core extreme anymore, because well, its not worth the money. Instead I'm going to get the e6700 after the april 22nd price cuts so itll be about 316$

I'm getting 2 WD raptor HD's for raid, and keeping the original HD that I posted for other storage.

I upgraded the GPU to 8800GTX

and changed the RAM to:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034

And I changed to the Samsung monitors:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824001096

When I get more money I'll get a good sound card but for now I'll just use the onboard sound.
Thanks for all your help everybody

And Im open to anymore suggestions.

If you want to wait until june you can get the q6600 for 266$. I'm going to get a pentium D for now and then upgrade to the q6600 in june.

thanks froboy I like that idea alot because in the long run itll save a lot of cash. Say if I got the Pentium D 925 and possibly did some overclocking would it run vista really good? I wont be doing hardcore computing but I still want performance. Does that like a logical idea?
Also Im getting vista 64 bit would the pentium d support this?
