I have been having problems in general with trojans and I can only browse using firefox right now, internet explorer won't work. In anycase, here are the logs and hopefully you guys can help me figure out which steps to take.

I do have combofix but am hesitant to run combofix unless instructed to by a helper.

Malwarebytes is not finding anything wrong, but I hope that the HJthis log may find something.

Also, no matter what I do I can't get internet explorer to connect to the internet (Weird!) Here is what happens when I run the diagnostic :

"Windows cannont connet to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewal settings for the HTTP port (80) HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)

You might need to contact your internet service provider (ISP) or the manufacturer of your firewall software"

Thing is... I'm not even using a firewall right now.

Hi there, please fully read my instructions and follow them carefully as they must be done in the order that they appear.

1. Update and run a FULL SCAN with Malwarebytes'.


How to run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

2. Run a scan with HiJackThis.

How to run a scan and post a log with HiJackThis.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

3. Scan your system with Security Check.

Download Security Check from here or here
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

4. Post all of the logs from each of the programs.

In your next reply i will need:
  • The Malwarebytes' log
  • A new HiJackThis log
  • Log from Security Check
  • An update on how your computer is running

Your combofix is most likely way outdated. and it might not run anyway with it being old. When did you download it?

You can't download the new version yet because combofix is being fixed at the moment.

If you don't have the recent version of combofix you can try downloading Superantispyware and see what it finds.

Also, no matter what I do I can't get internet explorer to connect to the internet (Weird!) Here is what happens when I run the diagnostic :

"Windows cannont connet to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewal settings for the HTTP port (80) HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)

You might need to contact your internet service provider (ISP) or the manufacturer of your firewall software"

Thing is... I'm not even using a firewall right now.

So the computer is running smoothly enough, taking a bit longer than normal but nothing drastic. The MAIN problems are :

I CANNOT use internet explorer to browse online
I CANNOT download updates automatically for malwarebytes, or other programs.
I CANNOT upload pictures to a hosting site such as www.photobucket.com

Thank god firefox still works! Or I couldn't even be posting this.

Downloaded it and am running it now.

As is the case with malwarebytes and internet explorer, the program claims it cannont update itself due to a "firewall" blocking it..

However, I'm not using ANY firewalls right now. There must be either spyware or a virus acting as a pertend firewall to stop me from helping the computer. I hope I can figure it out!

Also, no matter what I do I can't get internet explorer to connect to the internet (Weird!) Here is what happens when I run the diagnostic :

"Windows cannont connet to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Check the firewal settings for the HTTP port (80) HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)

You might need to contact your internet service provider (ISP) or the manufacturer of your firewall software"

Thing is... I'm not even using a firewall right now.

So the computer is running smoothly enough, taking a bit longer than normal but nothing drastic. The MAIN problems are :

I CANNOT use internet explorer to browse online
I CANNOT download updates automatically for malwarebytes, or other programs.
I CANNOT upload pictures to a hosting site such as www.photobucket.com

I ran superantispyware which did find a few things malwarebytes did not, but I still can't use internet explorer or update anything on my computer :(
 
Hi there you said you ran SUPERAntispyware did you delete the items that it found? Also i have included some more instructions below please follow them and do them in the order that they appear.


1. Update Java.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.


2. Update Adobe Reader.

You are using and outdated version of Adobe Reader. Adobe has since been updated and the update closes many security holes and provides new features.

First, uninstall earlier versions of Adobe Reader.

* Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Adobe Reader.
* Check (highlight) any item with Adobe Reader in the name.
* Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
* Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Adobe Reader version.

Please download the latest version from:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/

And install it. Once installed, launch it, select Help --> Check for Updates and install any updates.

You may also try the free Foxit PDF reader if you prefer, i also highly recommend it:

3. Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner.

Run Kaspersky Online AV Scanner
Using Internet Explorer Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html and click the Accept button at the end of the page.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
  • Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
  • Allow the ActiveX download if necessary.
  • Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
  • Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
  • Click on "My Computer" and then put the kettle on!
  • When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
  • Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
  • Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.
Copy and paste the report into your next reply along with a fresh HJT log and a description of how your PC is behaving.


4. Run a fresh scan with HiJackThis.

How to run a scan and post a log with HiJackThis.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.


5. Post the following logs.

In your next reply i will need:
  • The Kaspersky log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running
 
If Kaspersky doens't show anything then do this...

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here

•Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
•Double click GMER.exe.
•If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a full scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan..

•In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are UNCHECKED ...
◦Sections
◦IAT/EAT
◦Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
◦Show All (don't miss this one)
•Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
•Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "gmerlog.txt"

•Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.

At least we will know whats on your system now.
 
Hey guys I haven't had the time to follow your GREAT instructions yet but I will corrospond on this thread as soon as I have.. Just so you know I'm not ignoring your help or anything!

Thanks SO much for continuing to help me guys I really appreciate it, christmas is coming up and Im sure you guys have better things to do than help me so I am very grateful.
