can you help me decipher this? what should i remove?

you didnt

You didnt quarantine or delete the instances found, why? I'd remove all of them.

Could you post a HJT log?

I would recommend running CCleaner as well if you know how.

Let malwarebytes remove whatever it finds. And as Gamblingman has said, please post a hijackthis log.

Your hijackthis log is clean, did you have malwarebytes remove those infections?

how about

Umm Johnb, what about that gopher 013. I know its not malicious, but I believe it can be a weak spot.

And starlitjoker I dont see anything malicious either. There are a few unneeded services running at start-up, but nothing that is a problem or consumes too much of the processor.

I did notice that you torrent, are you familiar with the danger torrents pose?

Rerun hijackthis and place a check next to these entries.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uTorrent] "C:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe"

Then click on fix checked at the bottom.

As said before, you have utorrent installed which is a file sharing program and you can become infected from using it.

The 013 entry is personal preference, I haven't heard anywhere that it could cause problems.

I do not want to give incorrect information, so I did a lot of research. From what I have read, I understand that the 013 gopher is an older protocol for document retrieval protocol developed in the early 90's. The gopher instance is not a redirect or malicious. It is instead a data search/retrieval tool (an old one) for use when there was no internet.

Also, after doing lots of research, I realized that my data on the 013 entry was incorrect. I've also came to the understanding that most people don't even know what its for and instead just parrot "fix it, fix it".

I believe that an 013 can be bad, but only in certain instances. This is if an 013 is created by a hijacker that alters the registry entry in a way that causes the browser to redirect to an undesirable page. And in the case where the 013 is part of a hijacker intrusion, the 013 will include the prefix the redirects targets.

Am I correct on this Johnb?

I don't think i've ever seen a vista machine's hijackthis log without the 013. It's there on a fresh install. It's there on my Vista laptop. As long as its not followed by anything after it, then its fine.
