Just compare the specs from the alienware to a pc you could build yourself from newegg with the same specs.

Honestly, any manufacturer that builds "gaming machines" are going to be overpriced - it's basic economics that factors in labor and time. Even the HP Elite desktops are way overpriced compared to what you can build from the ground up.

IMO, Alienware is not the best, mainly because their cases are straight-up ugly. At least companies like Digital Storm and CyberPowerPC allow you to switch your case with ones from Antec, CoolerMaster, Corsair, etc.
