Please Tell Me About Seagate Harddrives

I have only known Western Digital but when I went over to NewEgg and looked at the reviews I was astonished at the number of people who have experienced serious issues with them as of late. I realize harddrives eventually falter but what I read is enough to make me look to another company's product.

So, I have been thinking of utilizing Seagate for my new machine but know nothing about this product. How dependable are they? What has been your experience?

i mean western digital is one of the big hard drive makers along with maxtor and seagate. they are all good companies. it just depends on the best deal that u get.

It really depends on what you like. Personally I prefer Maxtor but have used just about everything at one point.

Unless something changed in the last day or so I beleive SEAGATE has the only 5 year warranty. All three companies make quality products.

well, me and my boss both dont like Seagate, he doesnt like them because they are louder, i dont like mine cause it sometimes runs hotter then my processor x.x

I own 2 Seagate drives, one is a 40 gig the other is 160 gig. I really enjoy them. I got them on sale for "50 bucks-buy 160 get 40 free"...something like that. And they have lasted for at least 6 months so far. Plus the 5 year warranty.

Pros:
Can take a small beating.
Easy to install.

Cons:
When installing something the 160 runs a little hot.
You can barely hear the 160 read/write. (The motor spinning up.)

Did you do anything special to handle the heat? I take it though no major issues?
