well, I finally finished building my PC and it was all good, I installed XP, and installed a bunch of programs and some games... I was trying to install my wireless internet reciever when I started getting problems... When I plugged my reciever in via USB without the software/drivers installed, windows just said that it recieved a USB device plugged in, and it didnt know what it was. So I decided to install the software/driver and since then when i plug in the Reciever into ANY of the usb ports, my computer instantly crashes/restarts (ie no shut down, just straight up crash and restart.) I decided to leave it alone for a while, but my father tried to install the software again and he probably left the wireless plugged into the Computer, so it probably crashed another 2/3 times in the process...

now when I restart my computer, it wont load windows... The bios loads fine but as soon as it tries to go into windows i get a blank screen and nothing...

god damn it anyone know what happened?

I will be pissed off if I have to re-install windows and all these goddamn programs agian.

To start with boot into safe mode by pressing F8 when its booting and uninstalling the wireless software and drivers and see if it will boot in normal mode again

It's not working man, for some reason wheni hit F8 it gives me a choice of what to boot with like my hard drives or my CD-Rom drives... I get no option as far as windows...

Yo, I dont get that far man... Basically I see a screen in which it shows my CD drive, and then it goes to a blank black screen... in total about like 4 seconds.... arghhhhh

Make sure the usb device is unpluged, Try resetting the Bios, shut down and unplug the computer and set the jumper to clear for a few minutes then put back, then see if it will boot in safe mode

Hey Strangle, I somehow through some combo of jamming buttons managed to get into the load screen for safe mode/normal mode etc for windows...

I selected safe mode, and then it just went to the frozen screen again like before....

Do you get far enough to boot from CD? If so, why not attempt to boot from the Windows XP disc and running the Windows Repair tool? As for resetting your Bios, you need to refer to your motherboard manual for that as that will inform you of which jumper to move where etc.

none of the options work... (safe mode, last known good config, etc)

and breaks, when i put the windows CD in and boot with it it just takes me to windows setup, and wants to install windows again... and thats the only CD windows gave me

if you put in the windows disk.. does it boot the setup?
maybe you could try to use that repair option from that setup.. i have no idea if it works... but i think its worth a try :)

If you can afford to lose the data or you don't have your computer backed up with a program like Ghost or something I'd just start over. Wipe the disc and do a fresh install.

If you dont know where the jumper is to reset the bios then just take the battery out for a minute, does the same job.

I reset the BIOS defaults, but its not working, its obviously some huge problem with windows...

How can I wipe the disk without having to re-install windows first? I figured I would have to install windows again just to re-format it, then RE-INSTALL windows AGAIN... is there another way? It is a good disc, a WD-Raptor...

Go here http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and get the Win 98 OEM boot disk. Boot to that and use Fdisk. Are you Familiar? If not, at the prompt type Fdisc and go from there. Also some RAID M.B.'s like my old one allowed me to go into the RAID setup utility at boot up. I think it was Key F4. There I was able to do a low level format of the drives. Essentially completely wiping the disc back to all zeros.

diamond, my new PC has no floppy drive... how can i get this on a CD?

Hey, when i insert the Asus CD it boots to a option for drivers and for something called "freedos"

I hit freedos and it took me to a DOS command prompt... I entered "Format C:" but it says the "C:" only has 32 MB on it... so i'm assuming it's working with some virtual mini-drive and not the actual drive right? I should not format that right??? help!?!?!?!
