Hey guys,

well i recently upgraded from a E6300 Core 2 duo to a Q6600 quad core.

i was getting around 10,600 3d marks with my E6300 overclocked to 2.8 but im still getting very low 3d marks with my Q6600 overclocked to 3.2Ghz

whats going on? surely the score for my rig should be MORE?

score

The fact that you're running a quad doesn't make a difference. The CPU speed is all that matters, so your score is what I'd expect with a 400Mhz CPU speed increase. Know what I'm saying?

yeah i understand what your saying, but i honestly think it should be more.

take Calibrettos system score for example (hope you dont mind Calibretto )

His specs
- Gigabyte P35-S3G
- Q6600 @ 2.40GHz | Cooler Master GeminII
- 4GB OCZ Platinum @ 800MHz
- XFX 9800GT | Zalman VF1000 Cooler
- Antec Three Hundred Case | Antec NeoPower 380W PSU
- Acer 22" Widescreen LCD (1680x1050)
- Best 3DMark06 Score: 15109

he has his Q6600 at stock, and the 9800GT isnt realy that much better than the 8800GT and hes hitting 15K?
somethings definatly wrong here.

An E8*** series would bank you more.

i was going to get an e8400 but 4 cores got the better of me,and of course a tad bit more future proof than the dual cores.

400Mhz? From 2.4 - 3.2, that's 800Mhz ;)

Your CPU score looks right though, if you take a look at my score;

There's not much difference between the CPU scores. I think the it's the 8800GT, if anything. I'd say that score was alright to be honest. Try OC'ing your GT a little ;)

I hate to say it, but your wrong. 3DMark06 is optimized for multiple cores, going from say a 2.66Ghz C2D to a 2.66 C2Q should give you at least an extra 1-2 thousand points, then you factor in the overclock from 2.8Ghz to 3.2GHz, and I'd say a good 2,000 - 2,500 points should be expected (and it looks like that's what you got).

It was 2.8GHz to 3.2GHz. :)

i dont think it is tbh, look again at Calibrettos system, the 9800GT is basicly the same as a 8800GT and yet it gains him alot more points? and my Q6600 is overclocked.

depends what type of cooling he is using, and yes partially the motherboard, I have seen some ppl OC over 4Ghz, 3.5 is easily attainable on air cooling and a decent MB.

Based on experience, memory timings/speed affect very little, maybe in the low hundreds or even tens only.

@ Danny: Mike was referring going from Nevakonaza's C2D 2.8 to his C2Q 3.2, that is 400MHz ;)
