Portable drive advice

I have recently upgraded my memory stick to a 16gig Corsair GT and been disappointed by the downgrade of speed with small files. It is so slow I have decided it will not do what I mainly use it for. I use my memory stick as my portable workbench between home and work. I edit Word documents etc directly to the drive, which is in a truecrypt container in case I lose the stick. The new stick is slow each time I do a manual save. Likewise when copying multiple files over which are small, the wait is painful. My last Corsair 4gig drive was okay but unfortunately I gave it away when I upgraded :( I thought upgrading from a Corsair to a Corsair GT would improve the performance.

Now my dilemma: I need advice on what to replace it with. I am considering either another USB stick or a fast SD card. I want it to be able to write small files quickly even if it means slowing down copying of larger files. I've considered using my portable 2.5" hdd but it is not as small and portable as other solutions.

Should I go for a Class 6 SDHC SD card or can someone make a recommendation for an alternative memory stick model? Thanks
Nathan
