portion of sidebar gadget icons missing

on my sidebar, part of each gadget icon is missing. It is replaced by a square with an "X" in it. Because of this part of the info that should be displayed doesn't show up. Any ideas what causes this? I have uninstalled all gadgets and reinstalled them.

I've also tried the repair that I have seen that goes like this:

cd \Program Files\Windows Sidebar
regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll

It hasn't helped.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I tried to but I can't paste it in the post. Then I tried to paste it in a .doc, but then the size was too big (by a lot).

That is odd. What programs have you installed lately? Please give me a short history of what you were doing before this happened.
The only thing I can think of trying is opening up the Start menu and type sfc /scannow in the Search box.

nothing happens (sfc /scannow)

I tried the sfc /scannow command like you suggested and a box very briefly shows up (for less than 1 second) then goes away.

Also the other 2 accounts (my wife's and the guest) don't do this.

The only thing I can think that I added recently is software for my camera and a plug-in to look at info (exif) for pictures that I have

Why not try opening up Add or Remove Programs and going to Turn Windows Features On or Off, uncheck Windows Gadget Platform, then hit Ok and reboot when it's done removing it. Then, when you log back in, reopen Turn Windows Features On or Off and check Windows Gadget Platform, hit Ok and then reboot again. Tell me if it works when you log back in. You may have to add your gadgets back.
Also, if all else fails the only other thing I can think of doing is adding an account and transferring your files to it and delete your old one, but I don't want you to go down that route if possible, as you lose your preferences.
Also, I'm assuming you're using Windows 7.

No go...

I looked, but I do not have Windows Gadget Platform in the Windows Features part of control panel. There is a Windows side bar Icon in control panel, but all it lets you do is choose what side of the screen, what monitor, should it start with windows etc....

So anyway, I un-installed all gadgets, then restarted windows. Installed a few gadgets back in and the same thing.

It seems like maybe whatever software is needed to display those portions of the icon is missing.

Thanks for trying!

Well, I haven't had much experience with Vista, tried to stay away from it as best I can.
Try looking through Windows Components if it exists.
