have a Galaxy S3 and i keep getting these random text messages with no message, just a "download" option like they're sending me a pic. not just from one number, but several. never had this happen before. i'm wondering if its some kind of virus? any good apps i should DL to scan my phone to see if it is indeed a virus?

You can try scanning it with MalwareBytes. If that doesn't work then try performing a factory reset.

just remember a hard reset will do a wipe. Ya could also try this trial of Kaspersky.

thanks voyager! i downloaded malwarbytes and ran a scan. nothing was found and i actually haven't gotten any more text messages, as of right now, lol. so im hoping this was nothing serious
what exactly is a factory reset? installing everything completely over again??
It will completely wipe your device and set it back to factory condition, which means your need to back up any personal information before you do it.
i may have to do this, because i'm getting these annoying messages again. would just changing my number work you think? or it would still be on my device?

For a test, put your phone in airplane mode and only use WiFi. If you are getting the messages then it's an app on your phone made to look like a text, but if they don't come through it could be someone spamming your number, in which case a factory reset won't do anything.
i'm wondering if its my number getting spammed because my phone is working perfectly fine (running smoothly and everything)... what a PITA lol
