Possible CPU Problem?

OK, first off, my system is spyware/virus free.
This has always happened and i don't know why, but now it is getting annoying.
Sometimes after idling for around 20-30 minutes, my CPU usage suddenly goes all the way to 100% with nothing running except for windows and antivirus. the mouse becomes slow and unresponsive, if programs are open it takes ages for anything to happen, clicking on links etc, and if i move the mouse too fast i get BIOS beeps and then nothing happens at all, its completely frozen. I don't know why this happens, but it's like the computer starts going into slow-mo and won't come out. I have checked the BIOS and disabled all power saving features, but it still occurs. Sometimes the above symptoms take effect, except for one difference: a black screen with a slow and unresponsive mouse.
When this happens i am forced to hard shutdown and restart. Then its all fine.
I monitored with task manager one time and discovered that when this happens the CPU usage jumps to 100%.

Please help, this gets very annoying. Sometimes i just can't leave my computer idle for a toilet brake and/or making some food!
 
In task manager click on the Processes tab and try to see the "exe" file that is using the CPU when it occurs.
 
I can't, because it all moves so slowly and it is very unresponsive. It also won't just fix itself becuase i've tried...
When this happens task manager becomes dead.
It isn't just general slowdown, it is crippling the whole computer. I lost a few word documents because this happened.
 
Check the CPU time of applications in task manager, (View->Select columns-> CPU time) and see if anything suspect pops up
 
  1. Reboot.
  2. Open Task Manager.
  3. Click on the CPU tab as suggested until the System Idle Process is
  4. at the Bottom, then scroll up to the top.
  5. Let the PC sit.
  6. See which process(s) jump to the top.
  7. Post back here.
 
Problem solved. Old printer driver was running in multiple instances for some reason.
