Possible dead router?

Hello everybody this is my first post...I just ran into a problem, I was not getting any internet connectivity through both my wired and wireless computers so first I reset both modem and router and get nothing then I ran the wire straight from my modem into the computers and get a connection. So obviously my router is bad, it's about a year old (are they suppose to not last) it is a Linksys WRT546. What are your recommendations for replacement if this is a dead router? Thanks!

Well i've had my linksys router for 6 years now. Still works like the day i bought it.

Have you tried resetting it - either with the reset button on the hardware itself, or using the config page for hardware reset.

Speaking of the config page - are you able to access that? If not maybe your router is a dud after all. If so, search around...maybe theres a bad setting somewhere (DNS/DHCP server, or something similar) or you could try renewing DHCP or IP....

I like both D-Link and Linksys routers personally. Routers are relativly inexpensive so perhaps a new one wont be a huge blow to the bank.

Good luck!

It's not too uncommon for routers to die, but they typically last longer than that. My D-Link access point lasted about 5 years (well, 4 years without any problems :P). Try doing a full factory reset, perhaps even upgrading the firmware (DD-WRT anyone? ;) ) Maybe it's simply a software glitch.

Fixed the problem...What I did was just rerun the software it came with, now it works like a charm...Thanks...
