question: I want to sell my old processor e8400, mobo, and ram in a new build for a friend----------------- however I have a raptor 300 with ultimate 64 bit --- that I want to keep........ can i do it? do i have to include the raptor.... i have heard rumors that a processor is somehow linked to a hd. is that true????

my new build will include an i7, 1366 mobo, and new ram--can i put these into my old case with my raptor--???????

my friend wants my old processor, ram, and mobo, in a new case with new hd, opticals, power supply, etc----- basicly new build with used processor, mobo, and ram. is it as simple as swaping out componets......??????

its the mobo... as long as you have the same mobo but if you still have the disc u can install it into a new HD

Yes, you can keep the raptor. But try and get the same mobo so you wont have many issues with it.
And yes, if everything works together, it really is that easy to switch out components.

its almost as simple as swapping out components, yes. what you should do is install all your new components in your new machine and load your windows cd. then click "repair", and that should take care of it. at least, thats what i had to do when i upgraded from a socket 754 AMD to an LGA775 intel.

lovely? is right. The only thing that connects the cpu and mobo to the hard drive is drivers which can be easily downloaded again.

It's not always that simple. That is suppose to work, but, for example, when I moved my HDD from my Dell Dimension E310 to my current build I ended up having to wipe the HDD and reinstall from scratch. I'd say the safest bet would be to backup any files you want, try the repair as lovely? suggested, and if that doesn't work reformat and completely reinstall Windows.

ok----------- so this is what i am doing------- 775 giga mobo w 8400 wolf intel hooked up to raptor,,,,, want to change to 1366 mobo--(manufact undecided now) with i7.... for my builld. so your saying should work once connce to raptor with windows on it----- but to back up first------ if that dosent work,,, reformat the hdd and fresh reinstall on the raptor with original 64bit ultimate.

but now the friend build....... all new componets except the 8400 wolf and giga 775 mobo--- but now hooked up to new hdd---- with brand new version of vista------ and that is it for the freind build??????? do i have to have same kind of windows version???
