chris king: BIOS support is the only thing I need to know.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: I understand you are concern. I will be glad to assist you in this regard.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: I have verified that the computer is covered under warranty.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: I understand that you want to know if your computer BIOS supports GTX460m graphics card. Am I correct?

Sai Prasad Patnaik: Thank you for the confirmation.
chris king: I know replacing the card voids warranty
Sai Prasad Patnaik: Chris, I would like to inform you that it is not possible to replace the video card on the laptop.
chris king: Might i incur to why it can not?
Sai Prasad Patnaik: I will explain you.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: Chris, in desktop computer we have additional slots available like PCI slo, PCI express slots where you place the video card. However, in the laptop we do not have any external slots available to upgrade the video card.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: You can check the specifications of your computer in the following web link:-
Sai Prasad Patnaik:
http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/2010/Acer/Aspire/Aspire5742G/Aspire5742Gsp2.shtml
chris king: All laptops with a dedicated GPU have a MXM (laptop version of PCI express x16) slot occupied by the GPU.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: I am sorry to inform you that in laptops we do not have any expansion slots available to upgrade the video card.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: You can refer the above given web link for the specfications.
chris king: BS. The GT540 is in a slot now.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: I understand your concern.
Sai Prasad Patnaik: However, you cannot upgrade the video card and the BIOS will not support.
chris king: ok. thank you for finally answering the original question.
This however does not sound like an end all. I may just give it a try anyway, and worst case I will have a extra card and have to put the original back.
