Possible Overcloking Options For AMD 64 X2 3600

I Have a AMD 64 X2 3600 Socket AM2 2.00Ghz processor, I have recently noticed some people overclocking related processors and wondered if mine was worth overclocking, my specs are below and I want improved gaming performance/ with 3D games.

I Got It! You have to go in the JumperFree Configuration and allow overclocking advanced options! Overclocked it up 150mhz!

Someone recently found no performance gain at all when ocing a Core 2 Intel model. It takes a little more then bringing up the clock speed to see system wide performance gains. Increasing memory from 1gb to 2gb of a good performance type of memory, going with a newer more performance orietated video card, and other system tweaks are the key there.

the lesser speed amd chips actually outperform the higher speed chips with regard to percentage of overclocking ability

I have seen quite a few proven results where the 3600 was overclocked to the same speed as a stock 4200 X2

Why do you think the old Barton cored Atholon XP2500 was the best AMD model in the XP line for ocing when it reached the default speed of the XP3200 where that model had a locked multiplier? An entire line of models is still cast on the same die where ocing one model simply brings it up to a higher one there. Sometimes you may go over the high end a little. The newer designs allow a lot more ease for this over the older types of botth AMD and Intel.

Well I Overclocked it to 2.25ghz and downloaded ASUS PC Probe and Monitored my CPU Temp from when I had it to 2.00ghz and then to 2.25ghz and I saw a 2/3 F gain in temperature. My fan is pretty good. Im using a Opteron Fan and I saw it's coils provide good ventaliation for the CPU's heat.
I may go to 2.5ghz if i can get it to stable. Although I have experianced improved performance on Age of Empires 2. There is less/no lagging when I play. My next goal is to get a new graphics card, then get 2gb of ram.
Here are my results

Gain ---------- Heat Gain
2.00ghz--------0
2.05ghz--------0.5F
2.10ghz--------1F
2.15ghz--------1F
2.2ghz---------2F
2.25ghz--------3F

Also I would choose a AMD processor for overclocking because Intel has locked the product overclocking. The problem is Intel wins in sales because of Dell, Compaq, IBM, and other computers run off Intel, but AMD wins in performance because of overclocking abilities. By the way do you think my board is overclocking friendly???

Not really, Intel's have the same overclocking abilities. In fact, it's the motherboard that really determines how high you can overclock.

I have an E6400, which runs at 2.13Ghz stock, but have it running at 3.33Ghz after overclocking it.

I assume that is the brisbane core?

I just got the 3600+ brisbane and found that there is a significant performance increase from overclocking it, according to benchmarks. I also noticed a good 10-15fps avg increase in games like bf2142 and cs:s.

I tried the brisbane out for a budget gaming machine and couldn't be happier. One wouldn't think the mobo that is running it would do anything for overclocking, but it allowed the cpu freq to be increased by iterations of 1.

The mobo is definitely picking with what settings it likes to run. I'm currently locked at 9.5x, running at 233, and HTx at 3x. So thats 2.2ghz, from 1.9 stock. Only 300mhz, but it makes a difference (see above). This is all with stock cooler.

Yes I have the 2.0ghz 3600 and I clocked it 2250mhz so that is only a 250mhz gain. Im sure i can go higher than that. But I tried clocking it to 2500mhz and it overheated. I couldn't be happier with my chip at 2.25ghz. I bought it for $74.99. I also have a 1g of Ram so it improves gaming and my graphics card is ok... I notice a differece on games like Age of The Empires 2
Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam. I also noticed a difference with my multitasking. I upgraded from a Athlon 1800XP (1.50ghz) and 256mb of Ram. So you bet I'm noticing a difference.

From 2.2 to 2.7 I get, on average, around 3fps extra on my games.. OCing your processor by that small of an amount shouldn't give you that large a boost. Are you running on a low resolution?

Age of Empires 2 is released in 1999 and was built for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, and only requires about 64mb and 250mhz processor. You bet im getting better performence if you read my last post.

Thats a since that your video card is more of a bottleneck then your processor is. You can go from an E6300 to a Q6600 @ 4Ghz, but if you try to play a game such as CSS maxed out with a 6600GT, you wont notice much of a difference.

Are you sure it isn't just that my Proc doesn't really impact much in the games i play? I mean i haven't really checked out the difference stock/OC between all the games (to be honest i only checked one :o) I play but i'm absolutely sure i don't get an extra 25FPS in any game.
